"Have you got them stacked up next to all that toilet paper youve got?"
LOL!! Actually, I passed on the toilet paper hoarding.

Guess all those servers at all those restaurants were really providing a lot of coin velocity, wow!

I have been hoarding coins for close to a decade in fear of this situation.
We are being pushed into stop using coins. I will not be pushed, but I will push back even harder. I have saved all change that is in my pockets at the end of each day. I have several 5-gallon jugs of coins and bills that were in my pockets.
I love going to those coin machines and finding leftover change. Many times I find silver dimes or Canadian coins.

Wide mentioned that the local Kroger has signs up about this for the past few days I wouldn't let the wife see that post.

I’ve seen several signs in stores in SW PA asking people to pay with cards or exact change because of the coin shortage.

if it’s a coinstar it’s 11%. The only thing coinstar are good for is sorting out all the silver coins. people leave them in the reject slot.

Yes. A Family Dollar Store in my area posted a request for “correct change if possible” next to the register due to a “coin shortage”. Seems oddly timed.

“Yes another instance of not letting a crisis go to waste. One of their goals is to do away with currency. This is a trial run.”
This.
I got a box of $500 of quarters last week, no problem (searching for the 2019 and 2020 West Point quarters). Yesterday...$30 worth. What, ALL of the coins disappeared in a week’s time? What a steaming pile of BS. As with virtually everything else in society, this is about either money or politics, or both (and if you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, then you’re it).

Okay. I guess I don't get out enough anymore. For small transactions I like to pay cash. Try using a card at the 84 flea market or the dollar car wash.

I have many containers of coins. I keep meaning to sit down and sort through to see if I have anything of collectible value, but I really don't know what I'd be looking for. For silver content I made a small spreadsheet that might help. This is screenshot based on today's silver price.

“Our credit union is free for members.”
Mine used to be - and since March they charge 5%. WTF, over? I found a bank that’ll take rolled coins for nothing, so I’m switching to them for dumping my coin searches. The coin envelopes are available on Amazon for under $0.01/roll. I joined the CU just for the coin counting machine, and I told them that I am leaving because of their change in policy.

‘71 - ‘78 on the Ike dollars is only for collectible coins (as in 40% silver proofs or uncirculated bought from the mint at a premium price). You will not find those in circulation unless some thief robbed a collector and doesn’t give a damn about getting full value vs. getting some money right now.

OK I was at Dollar Tree last week. The cashier, and 2 customers, total IQ for the 3 is under 200 by my estimates... The cashier was talking about this coin shortage and told the customers that it was due to POTUS is sending all the coins to Russia, trying to stay in good with Putin.
I kid you not. This is not sarcasm. The rest of their discussion would have prompted a Secret Service investigation as to possible suggested threats against POTUS.

I go to the 84 flea market when I happen to have a Monday off. Where else can you shop for junk with cattle mooing in the background?

I have a small savings account at a local bank that has a change machine, so I dont have to pay a fee.
I drove by a bank today that I am told has one of those. I might open an account just for that purpose (if they ever let the public back in again to use the machine).

Its a digital world, join the current century. In addition to the loss of privacy, credit and debit cards charge a fee that can exceed the margin on the item and even the value of the item itself.
I see it all the time. A customer rings up $20 or $30 worth of items, finalized that transaction, and then realize they need one more item. The separate transaction for the additional item was a loss for the retailer. THAT cost is rolled over onto other shoppers.
To: TangoLimaSierra; Cold Heart
Thank you for that chart!
Based on the advice in this thread, I will probably just get a bank account at a bank with a coin machine...but I think I will first use your chart to weed out and keep some of the coins with decent silver content. That could be done relatively quickly. I have a cheapy sorting machine.
