Anti-racist protests in the wake recent high-profile police killings of Black people will take on another form on Tuesday, July 7: economic protest.
Black people spend $1.2 trillion annually in the U.S., according to a 2018 report by Nielsen. But for one day called Blackout Day 2020, organizers of an economic boycott are asking the Black community to spend no money at all, or to spend only at Black-owned businesses.

This reminds of “a day without a Mexican” day about 15 years ago. This was to show us all how important a contribution they made and we can’t live without them. We were having an addition put on our house at the time. On that day Mexicans Juan and Joelle from the construction crew took the day off.
I asked the foreman where they were. He told me they took off because it was a “Day without a Mexican day”. He said it as if he was appalled I’d ask such a question. I told Him this would cost me. He said “it’s only one day. It won’t cost that much”. I contacted the head of the company and told him because of this Juan, Joelle and the foreman were not to return to my property. After I explained why he said he fired all 3.
In the hood, “to go shopping” means to go looting. So... to boycott someplace means to... stop looting??? I don’t know, it’s just all so difficult for my little white brain.

I have planned to hit the local gun store today. Don’t really need anything, but I like seeing what’s on the consignment shelf.
