There is a huge shortage of housing here in the Coeur D’Alene area and prices are soaring. People fleeing to our beautiful area from all over.
That was on my list of goto spots. I think I’ll scratch it.
That’s a shame. The mindless California disease spread to Washington and Oregon and it appears it’s spreading other places.
My wife is a native Californian, Bay Area. I moved to CA when I was 21.
We bought a place in Northern Idaho three years ago and I can’t pry her out of ID. Sane governance, great people, affordable, skiing nearby, gorgeous country, and you can say what you think without ruining your career and/or life.
She is on a business trip to the Bay Area right now. I asked her this morning if she was wanted to move back there; she laughed and said “No way.”

I’d still look at it. The ten northernmost counties in Idaho have a combined population of 340,000. At our California place, you can spit and hit more people than that. There are natural lakes all over. Prices are still affordable. The mountains and lakes look like the Lake Tahoe area. Winters are not severe like in Montana and Wyoming.
Shame on us? Shame on the maggots that live there who allowed it to happen. CA was red until the early 90s. Laraz (sp) and unbridled immigration led to that decline. I have no idea what happen to Washington or Oregon but it’s up to the residents of THOSE states to be ever vigilant.

we loved Wash State were all set to move our business and home there,
but when we learned about its freaky commie/nazi/leftist politics (state level, I realize there are some local areas with good city or county officials)......we ran as fast as we could elsewhere.

Wash State level politics (and as we have seen Seattle city politics) appear almost as bad as Californications’ or New York’s or Illinois’, alas~ And such a beautiful state with so many nice people too, its a crying shame that sane sensible folks cannot regain control of it

The “FreeBSD is dying” SlashDot meme actually dates me as over the hill. It’s a pretty ancient meme. ;)
If you’ve heard of Linux, FreeBSD was one of the “unix like” alternatives. It’s still around. It still has adherents. Personally, I no longer care. I just use what works, and that’s usually some variant of Linux for server stuff.
It’s just an old SlashDot thing if someone says “XXX is dying.”, to post that old meme.
IMO Seattle isn’t “dying”. It’s been a big open air bum encampment for years due to the leftie takeover. Really, CHAZ should be renamed to BUMZ. Belligerent Unemployable Moron Zone.

Man, I remember being stationed there 30 years ago, in the military, back in 90-93 - I thought it was the most beautiful city and area in the lower 48.
I haven’t been back since, but seeing these videos, seeing what’s happened there after all this crap, these radical hate-America marxists - what a damn shame.
I don’t know, but to me it seems the tipping point was in the 2004 election for governor. The Republican was ahead by thousands of votes when all the polls closed, but the dhimmi used the old “let’s keep on counting all the newly found missing bags of votes, until we get it right” which gave dhimmi Christine Gregoire the governorship. since then, it’s been one shitstorm after another.

It will be much worse after the war on the police. Much worse.
It won’t turn into Detroit. Seattle has anchor corporations much like California that guarantee they will remain pretty wealthy at least in the short-term, but the writing is on the wall.
The city will continue to go downhill rapidly with homelessness, leftist policies and taxation, and now a surge in crime as the police are attacked.
