Some ancient Egyptian royals were literal siblings, not just kissing cousins.

Just like the Ptolomies in Egypt and the Hapsburgs - keep it in the family...

Common in ancient times. Lot impregnated his two daughters.

Jews married cousins* for hundreds of years in Europe, muslims still do it today. My Christian ancestors married cousins* generation after generation, apparently during as late as the 18th-19th Centuries. It was a not unheard of practice throughout much of history.

*Not necessarily first cousins, but close enough to be noticed in the DNA.

An impressive structure. We visited there a number of years back. The passageway gets very tight in a few places. On the solstice (I forget which one, summer or winter) the sun’s light (rising or setting, forgot that too) penetrates all the way to the inner chamber for a short time. Quite a feat of engineering!

Newgrange is a beautiful place to visit. Been there twice. In 1985 we pulled over and wandered in the front door alone. In 2015 we had to park in a designated parking lot, wait on a group of 10 to gather, pay a fee, and follow the tour guide. It’s good they are working to protect these awesome places.
