For far too long Juneteenth, marking the official end of slavery in America, has remained a niche holiday within the Black community. Now it must turn into a national holiday that all Americans should embrace.
Following George Floyds murder, Americans have stood up and declared that they can no longer tolerate the American status quo that devalues Black lives. Americans of all walks of life have supported defunding the police, and forcefully removed statues and monuments celebrating Confederates, slave owners and colonizers who terrorized indigenous people. Americans have occupied the streets chanting Black Lives Matter and shouting down white supremacy.

chitlins & ham hocks!
I suggest an image from the 1924 Democrat KlanBake Convention be made into a USPS stamp.
We have exactly one federal holiday which celebrates an individual — Martin Luther King.
We have black History month — which seems to start mid-January and taper off in mid-March.
Now Juneteenth is set to be the most important day of the year.
I’m done with the race extortion. They want to tear down our history? Fine. I’ve forgotten the past. Blacks in America have nothing to complain about and can celebrate the same way everybody else does.
Now it must turn into a national holiday that all Americans should embrace.

Spoken like a true fascist.
You WILL celebrate what we TELL you to celebrate, you worm! Kneel!
Hey! Where’s that guy from Chick-Fil-A with the shoeshine kit?
YOU! OVER THERE! You’re not flying your Juneteenth flag?! It’s re-education camp for you!
Even Fox News is breathlessly promoting this nonsense.
A great civil war was fought to preserve the union. Lincoln ended slavery because he needed to give the war a great moral cause to justify the horrendous loss of life casualties to war weary north.
The call to celebrate it now is an attempt to shame innocent people for its historical existence. No credit is given to the 600,000 who died ending it, nor the trillions spent in reparations. It is a psy op.
ps
My daughter’s law firm gave her a half day off to “celebrate”. The message is that this is a day that white people must atone for slavery. We’re going shooting instead.
This article is a joke, right? Maybe plagiarized from the Babylon Bee?
Wouldn’t that be cultural appropriation? Weren’t we told that was bad?
How about: Nope.
The day we finally crushed democrat slave holders? That day?
Anticipating flames, I unequivocally agree with the idea of making this a national holiday. As most Freepers are wont to point out “no one alive is a slave anymore and no one alive owned slaves”. By remembering this with a national holiday, we would remind ourselves of these very ideas and the important milestone in our nation’s history achieved through emancipation. White’s need to consider how important this is to Blacks in America, but I think it is also important for White’s to consider how important it is for White’s, as well.
The idea of bondage and servitude is often a psychological scar suffered by today’s Blacks experienced afresh every time they reflect on perceived (and, sadly, sometimes real) injustices they experience. Perhaps knowing that America, has set aside a day of reminder on the calendar, that this piece of history has been ended and the nation once set out to turn a corner from this inhumane system will grant them the inner peace necessary to allow whatever remaining scars exist to better heal and to allow America’s Black population to better enter into the kind of participation in the American way of life afforded to all people and, thus, begin to reap more of Her blessings. There is a coming to terms with the past in this, a realization that you are what you are, and not what you (in this case, your ancestors) once were. This can allow for moving forward. Knowing that White America will annually reflect on their ancestors’ emancipation may just promote the kind of healing that leads to the end of the deep wound caused by this sad, but real part of our collective past, the kind of wound White America has simply never felt. A holiday would also afford Blacks a time of true rejoicing. The end of bondage, the return to the proper status of humanity, freedom and equality are things worthy of celebration. We do this as a nation during our Independence Day celebrations as we celebrate our nation’s separation from an oppressive regime. Freedom from bondage and slavery is no less important than freedom from tyrannical government. In fact, for the slave I would think it is one in the same.
The emancipation of slaves in America is indeed something we should all be reminded of. It would allow for White America to be able to say, and in a less confrontational, more compassionate way, “There are no more slaves. There are no more slave owners.” It would allow Blacks to reflect on this with a true heart of celebration. They would know, too, that the entire nation has chosen to celebrate right along with them, to rejoice over their freedom, to rejoice that a wrong has been made right. Perhaps then a final release from the “bondage” of the past may take place for all involved.
It's about communism, the end of the Constitution and the United States.. Black people are being used as suckers, the gullible fools. If they think the commies are going to care and feed them when they take control, they better think again... History does not prove that out.. Oh, I forgot, they don't want to know anything about history... :(
Not under threat of rioting and loss of all rights.
I never bought into this anyway. My holiday was Columbus Day.
The emancipation of slaves in America is indeed something we should all be reminded of.
That was NOT what the proclamation did. It freed only those slaves in the rebellion states, PERIOD. Perhaps celebrating the 13th or 14th amendment would be the right thing to do but not this.
Just another tool to beat this country and white people over the head with, while obscuring history, and further indoctrinating school kids.
If it really meant something to people, they would have been celebrating it all this time instead of pulling it out now.
So, no.
Peach
Not happening.
Maybe it is time for blacks to become actual Americans instead of working to make the US into a third world, dystopic, marxist-islamic, slave-celebrating, crap-hole.
The only day worthy of such national recognition is remembrance of the signing of the Declaration of Independence from British control.
OK! I suppose that we can all celebrate by joining together to remove a statue of President Abraham Lincoln with a freed slave as they are doing in Boston.
Nothing wrote with another paid holiday. There is not enough loafing going on now.
But we need to clean up the name “Juneteenth” because that is nothing less than supposed slave dialect - perhaps created by former slave masters to stereotype their former guest workers.
The use of the word “Juneteenth” is the verbal equivalence of wearing black face.
