FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA)
An Arkansas Walmart is being used as a test location to launch all self-checkout registers at its store.
A Walmart spokesperson said Walmart Supercenter Store #359 in Fayetteville is currently
removing all of its traditional belt lines to replace them with self-checkout registers.
There will be no cashiers at the location.

Funny and clever. We use self checkout but are glad to have a cashier available on occasion. I hope they have lanes designated for small purchases and we do not get stuck behind those huge baskets of groceries!
Its going to be very hard. One of the things that bothers me is that a of people, even on FR, say that theyd rather have a machine anyway.
Me? I like talking to human beings. The lines at Walmart and other places had already gotten slow simply because they werent hiring enough human beings.
The shut down has driven people apart And thats one of the reasons we are having these politically manipulated riots.
Yes. I mentioned that. Any moron can push a banana icon to operate the scales. I have probably done it hundreds of times.
I hate self checkout for the same reason.
Not unless it’s a more expensive item with an RFID attached.
A local forty year old started doing what you suggest last year. She was on camera over ten times.
When they finally caught her she got off with probation since it was a first offense.
Anytime you see a police cruiser parked in front of a Walmart, they’re in the store to check out “home” videos. The ones I’ve caught heading in have always responded positively when I asked about shoplifting.
Maybe you are well trained enough to just conduct your shopping in a way that is convenient for the check out machines. Try some more complicated cases and see how well the machines perform.
I was being facetious, but whatever you say. #;^)
Walmart tried that using a scanner like the associates use. You picked up the scanner at the front of the store and scanned the items as you placed them in the cart.
That lasted about a month at one Walmart before it was removed.
I refuse to use the self-checkout on principle. I refuse to become an unpaid employee of Wal-Mart.
“In this situation at Wally World how about not scanning a few
purchases. “

In my neck of the woods, I don’t know how they know you haven’t scanned stuff, though they know.
On two separate occasions as different Walmart stores (pre-COVID), I saw shoppers being stopped by store security for having items in their bags which were not scanned. Not sure about the contents of one of the shoppers; the other had meats they had not scanned.
Security did not look amused and I don’t think they were going to let it just go away.
That's the main reason I avoid self-checkouts. As soon as I scan my beer all sorts of lights start flashing and I have to wait for some 22-year-old front end manager come to check my ID.
> Me? I like talking to human beings...
So you’re the $%@#@&**# holding up the line chatting with the cashier while my ice cream is melting! (grin)
“I cant believe nobody has developed that yet.”

I believe that type of cart is used in Japan.
It’s a joy to view different videos about technology around the world, and on one I saw a very large new store.
Completely automated as far as sales go. You put the item in the card and somehow it scans it.
In Sweden, I believe they have apps on phones that will scan everything in the cart.
Both clips related how everything, EVERYTHING is read; no shoplifting.
Neat.
Years ago Walmart lost quite a bit of money from customers sneaking items past self-checkout. The Asset Protection team can track employee theft and customer theft. The store I worked in lost a huge amount to employee theft every year.
Security cameras are positioned at every check out, both self and regular check out.
I guess now the technology has improved so much that they are no longer losing much on those self registers and are moving more in that direction.
Have property near there and that store is the nearest big WalMart. We won’t be going there anymore.
Notice they didn’t do this in Bentonville or Rodgers where all their upper management live.
If we’re doing the checking, the bagging and the carrying to our vehicle shouldn’t we also get a paycheck?
Half of all students are below average. That's why we need to pay teachers even more.
Walmart CEP ranting about racism? You should talk to some store employees about their pay. One told me once that their pay was reduced to pay for air conditioning repair.
I would be ok with it but... the self checkpoint does not work reliably.
making someone be their own cashier isn’t “technology”. its the same technology that already exists in the regular checkout lane.
