Has anybody ever heard of the “Juneteenth Holiday” before?

I remember when they pushed Kwanza ... but “the Juneteenth Holiday” ?!

Imagine the DNC deep state types trying to come up for something on that that day to criticize and of course tie to “racism” ... so they made a big stink about it. Modern society is such ala “Bradley effect” nobody knows what the “Juneteenth Holiday” is/was and it probably rang funny to most when the #FakeNews had their fit.

So POTUS just changes the date - which really doesn’t matter at this point & the demand warrants opportunity to consider another venue. Then he announces:

“We had previously scheduled our #MAGA Rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for June 19th – a big deal. Unfortunately, however, this would fall on the Juneteenth Holiday. Many of my African American friends and supporters have reached out to suggest that we consider changing the date out... of respect for this Holiday, and in observance of this important occasion and all that it represents. I have therefore decided to move our rally to Saturday, June 20th, in order to honor their requests... We have already had ticket requests in excess of 200,000 people. I look forward to seeing everyone in Oklahoma!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 13, 2020

Juneteenth is a special day in Texas. The info about the Emancipation Proclamation did not reach Texas until June 19th 2 1/2 years after it had been proclaimed. That’s why it is remembered here as a special day.

No, I had never heard of it before. And it turns out, it’s simply the date when a military leader made it official that Texas slaves were free.

I would think that the Emancipation Proclamation in September would be the day to celebrate, but then I truly don’t understand the illogical Orwellian point of view.

It's a big deal among blacks in Texas. I guess it extends into Oklahoma as well.

I had never heard of Juneteenth before, hubby said he has.

But, now they will complain that Trump cannot have it in June 20th because it is the first day of summer.

Can you hear the little screaming commies now?

Yes Here in Texas it is a big deal. Communication not being what it is now it is when word finally reached Texas that the slaves were free. I grew up in Oklahoma and only vaguely remember hearing about it. But I was also a child and not really following things at that age.

Juneteenth is a celebration day because it is the day slaves were declared free. Maybe only in Texas? There are celebrations in most towns of any size here.
“Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day and Cel-Liberation Day, is an American holiday celebrated on June 19. It memorializes June 19, 1865, when Union general Gordon Granger read orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free.”

Life long Texan, yes I have heard of Juneteenth. No lie, traditional celebration includes going to the lake and having watermelon and red soda.

arg...I was wrong...I did hear of juneteenth, but I wrongly attributed Detroit’s fires to it.
Detroit’s fires were from Devil’s Night.

Juneteenth has been a Texas State Holiday for as long as I can remember (along with Texas Independence Day and (my favorite) Confederate Heroes Day). I don’t think of it as a national holiday at all. Seems like maybe they’ve been pushing to make it national for a couple of years maybe.
