Once you are in, you are in for life. During the First Gulf War when we didn’t know where that was going I got letters telling me to get my shit in order..will, power of attorney, etc and stand by just in case. I had been retired 7 years at the time.

Yup, I was at Benning and helped get those that had been released in the past two years or so come back in. I was in Legal and must have done thousands of wills before the people left to go to the gulf. I retired when the gulf war was over in 92. Yup, even in my 70s they could call me back if they desired to do so, whether I am broken down or not.

I was retired enlisted and was eligible for recall for both desert thunder and desert storm. Wouldn’t have been of much use for anything after that. Officer corps, though, maintain their recall eligibility far longer than enlisted. Generals and flag officers never give up their eligibility for recall.
