town hall yesterday, I mentioned James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. From 1962, it remains a seminal meditation on race by one of our greatest writers and relevant for understanding the pain and anger behind the protests. Excerpt:

Why does he mention 1962? It seems very odd the way he inserts 1962. I would have said “Written in 1962” or “Since 1962”.

That book was published in 1963 not 1962 so you’re right. its code. But then there’s 57 states right?
