I Don’t Want To See One More Damn Coronavirus Commercial
Redstate.com ^ | 5/18/20 | Kira Davis

I have a confession to make. I am sick…

…of coronavirus commercials. I in no way feel comforted by them, moved by them and I’m certainly not entertained by them. At the very least they make me want to change the channel. At worst they make me want to actively boycott the products.

I don’t want to see one more damn coronavirus commercial!

No more “We’re all in this together”…we are decidedly not. From celebrities doing Tik Toks from their palatial estates to Nancy Pelosi’s subzero freezer filled to the brim with expensive ice cream it has become increasingly clear that we are indeed not all in this together. Some of us are crammed into stale apartments. Some of us are isolated with our abusers or family addicts. Some of us are losing the businesses we worked our whole lives to build. Others of us are in mansions, still getting paid, still traveling, still going to parties, still going to private gym appointments. None of us are together, though. That’s kind of the whole point.

I don’t want to see one more damn celebrity sing-along over Zoom. In fact, I don’t want to see one more damn thing over Zoom, period!

The weird thing is that California is prohibiting the opening of clothing stores such as Macy’s and Nordstrom located in shopping centers.

But California ALLOWS (Phase 2) small mom & pop clothing stores on Main Street to open. How many local, independent clothing stores are left? NONE!

But Walmart and Target remain open with huge clothing sections open for shopping.

Nothing is consistent or logical. Nothing.

What about hearing all the brow-beating/nagging “public service announcements” by the sickeningly liberal AD COUNCIL on radio?

Look at all the past pandemics in the United States that didn't cause this insanity and we all went along with our normal daily lives...

1957-1958 Pandemic (H2N2 virus)

In February 1957, a new influenza A (H2N2) virus emerged in East Asia, triggering a pandemic (“Asian Flu”). This H2N2 virus was comprised of three different genes from an H2N2 virus that originated from an avian influenza A virus, including the H2 hemagglutinin and the N2 neuraminidase genes. It was first reported in Singapore in February 1957, Hong Kong in April 1957, and in coastal cities in the United States in summer 1957. The estimated number of deaths was 1.1 million worldwide and 116,000 in the United States. [NOTE: There were 181 million people in the U.S. in 1958. There are 1.8 times more people today, so 116,000 scales to 212,000 deaths in 2020.]

1968 Pandemic (H3N2 virus)

The 1968 pandemic was caused by an influenza A (H3N2) virus comprised of two genes from an avian influenza A virus, including a new H3 hemagglutinin, but also contained the N2 neuraminidase from the 1957 H2N2 virus. It was first noted in the United States in September 1968. The estimated number of deaths was 1 million worldwide and about 100,000 in the United States. Most excess deaths were in people 65 years and older. The H3N2 virus continues to circulate worldwide as a seasonal influenza A virus. Seasonal H3N2 viruses, which are associated with severe illness in older people, undergo regular antigenic drift. [NOTE: This scales to 161,000 in 2020]

The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic: A New Flu Virus Emerges

The (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from H1N1 viruses that were circulating at the time of the pandemic. Few young people had any existing immunity (as detected by antibody response) to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus, but nearly one-third of people over 60 years old had antibodies against this virus, likely from exposure to an older H1N1 virus earlier in their lives. Since the (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from circulating H1N1 viruses, vaccination with seasonal flu vaccines offered little cross-protection against (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection. While a monovalent (H1N1)pdm09 vaccine was produced, it was not available in large quantities until late November—after the peak of illness during the second wave had come and gone in the United States. From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8,868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

The coronavirus is our new industry.

Brilliant and don't forget our new politics. I saw this very early on. It was so predictable.

It’s helpful when celebrities tell me to wash my hands because I don’t know that. They’re very smart.

I agree with all of that.

Additionally, I want to be able to watch shows to get away from Fauci’s Apocalypse.

I don’t want every ******* commercial to remind me about it, over and over and over and over.

Unprecedented.
Uncertain.

Seeing masked people on TV is scaring children just like the bomb disaster drills did in the public schools years ago. So wrong.

Like I said. We’re all in this together...
If you want a winner take all your own your own society, you should support the Republican ticket. But if you want a country - shared opportunities and shared responsibility - all in this together society. You should vote for Barack Obama and Joe. I did...

Excellent run down. I had company over for dinner tonight. I asked an elder friend about what she recalled of the '68-'69 Hong Kong Flu. I was a child then, so I was oblivious. I just went to school like normal. My friend made a point that life just went on, but she remembered the pandemic.

Everyone at dinner was sick and tired of this shutdown and we are all trying to go on with life now. We made social distancing jokes, but we didn't social distance. We hugged and shaked hands, and only now that I am recalling the evening have I realized that I didn't think twice about body contact. We sort of all agreed that we are all going to die sooner or later so the important thing is how we live today and every day.

I've been making a concerted effort to entertain friends on a more regular basis, and I am very happy to see they are freedom loving and refuse to comply with government orders. Next week, I'm hosting a little soiree for a group of my daughter's friends (she's a young adult). They've been over in ones, twos and threes since the shutdown started, but this will be the first time as a larger group. Individually they are fed up with this crap. It should be an interesting night, but I'm not going to harp on this shutdown stuff. I'm just going to enjoy the moment and hopefully they will to. It's important that we practice our freedoms and liberties even when government says not to.

You are correct. It is more wide spread than PA. I was just using my personal experience with Walmart here and still being under shutdown orders. Other places are opening up. As for districts with GOP congresscritters and facing stricter shutdowns, I’m in one and General Perry is a member of the freedom caucus. The left really, really loves him, not. That goes to your theory.
