First Gov. Andrew Cuomo blamed nursing homes for a widely criticized directive from his Health Department barring the facilities from turning away coronavirus-positive people — now he’s pawning it off on the White House.
Critics should “ask President Trump” about it, the governor said Wednesday, arguing that the federal government actually cooked up the mandate — and that New York was just following Washington’s lead.
“Anyone who wants to ask, ‘Why did the state do that with COVID patients in nursing homes,’ it’s because the state followed President Trump’s CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidance,” Cuomo told reporters in Albany who pressed him on whether he had any regrets about the directive, which may have played a role in the deaths of thousands of nursing home residents.
“They should ask President Trump. I think that will stop the conversation,” he repeated.

Cuomo is a Democrat, therefore expect that they are working together. Someone at the CDC produced a directive. Cuomo will produce it. It was produced for just this moment.
A “guideline” per the CDC is NOT an order, until the state governor MAKES it an order.
This probably badly damages the proposed sainthood for the second saint of the Cuomo family (after St. Mario).

I hope Trump responds: It was STUPID to send all those old folks with coronavirus to nursing homes to infect others. We provided beaucoup emergency hospital beds and Cuomo and de Blasio didn’t use them at all.

A fresh enterprising young lawyer could make his name by successfully arguing that Cuomo is legally culpable of multiple counts of negligent homicide.
Trump rushed a hospital ship to NY but Comrade Cuomo and Comrade de Blasio sent infected patients to nursing homes instead.

Both Medicare and Medicaid changed their regs to allow nursing homes to refuse WuFlu patients if necessary.

The CDC guidelines state what the nursing homes must do IF they take COVID positive people.
The CDC does NOT mandate that nursing homes take COVID positive people.
Cuomo's EO does mandate that nursing homes take COVID positive people.
Just another example of Cuomo acting like a psychopath.

If I were an opposing politician, I would NEVER tell someone to “ask President Trump”. Because, by G_d, President Trump will answer. Calvin Coolidge he ain’t.

Well, via Medicare rules if the states want to be reimbursed.
However, I do believe the rules were modified very early in the WuFlu nonsense to allow nursing homes to refuse eligible, but flu-ridden patients for the safety of the current residents.
