...I recall reading somewhere within the last 6 months of some abortive phone calls or emails or text messages with some GOP-e derps attempting to pull the old switcheroo at the last minute to substitute Pence for Trump.

But I can't remember the details any more than I can the exact rule for doubling consonants in verbs...
