The origin of the Kenyan connection narrative was from the profile submitted for Hussein for his book by his publicist. Where that arose I’m not sure - my impression at the time was that they’d created this false portrait of him that wouldn’t wash if/when he ran for POTUS requiring naturalized citizen.

Yes, but also the Kenyan connection was trotted out when/as necessary since he was small. He most likely had various “identities” depending on circumstances, locations, who was his caretaker/s at the time, etc.
