The tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be entering the containment phase. Tens of thousands of Americans have died, and Americans are now desperate for sensible policymakers who have the courage to ignore the panic and rely on facts. Leaders must examine accumulated data to see what has actually happened, rather than keep emphasizing hypothetical projections; combine that empirical evidence with fundamental principles of biology established for decades; and then thoughtfully restore the country to function.
Five key facts are being ignored by those calling for continuing the near-total lockdown.

The virus is contained in your mouth and is primarily spread via leaving one person’s mouth and getting somehow into another’s, usually by getting on their hands in between.
Speaking for two minutes releases as much saliva as a sneeze.
Masks are only a little bit useful in stopping me from getting the disease, but they are VERY useful in stopping you from giving the disease to others. Asymptomatic spread is the secret weapon of this virus. The people spreading it don’t know they have it.
Oh, sure -- maybe for some of them. But anyone who thinks this isn't going to devastate many, many businesses is delusional.
Case in point ...
Farms can operate. Food producers can operate. If the restaurants that buy from the food producers aren't open, how much business can they do (hence the stories you're reading about farmers destroying their commodities because they can't sell them).
The vendor I use for my printing is closed. I am open (I never closed, even though I'm supposedly a "non-essential" business). I need a print job done. If I can't get the printing job done professionally I'm either going to do it myself or have it done out of state and shipped here via FedEx or UPS. Do you think that printing business is going to have a full base of customers when it is permitted to open?
Opening businesses "not all uniformly" ignores the essential relationships between different types of businesses. A governor whose staff sits down and identifies "essential" and "non-essential" businesses using a NAICS industry code is an ignoramus, and is a major threat to the well-being of the constituents in that state.
No, they are not.
Yep. A gaslighting technique.
16,000+ they had a cow
lest we forget... government may shutdown, but they are still getting paid.
That’s a brilliant piece of science, but on the off chance you’re serious, it’s because a fart is a gas but the Covid travels in droplets of water that will be absorbed by the mask. It’s more like when you wet your pants the wet stays absorbed on the pants rather than all over the floor.
If I get sick and have to go out, I’ll wear a mask...not otherwise....giving up one FReedom so they deign to allow you another FReedom ain’t FReedom at all...it’s akin to being a muzzie female forced to wear a burka...
There is truth in much of what you say but still people forget and they do so quickly in the absence of anything close to what the “authorities” were projecting.
Sadly we are a nation of sheep and once people start going about their business in force others will join them.
As for business failures? Sure there will be some and that is too bad. However good business sense dictates having enough capital to sustain a business interruption of a limited nature.
AS for farmers killing livestock, I’m not a farmer but I don’t know why it was necessary to kill them rather than keep them alive a while longer. Probably has something to do with the cost of feed etc but as I said I am not a Farmer.
Thank you. A rare voice of reason.
“but they are VERY useful in stopping you from giving the disease to others.”
“its because a fart is a gas”
It also contains vapor as does your breath which gets through cloth.
Yes, DU is still with us and as hateful as every.
They still have not expanded their vocabulary beyond F***.
a while ago they banned masks. I started wearing one then. Now they require it. go figure.
The problem is that you don’t know you’re sick with this thing, sometimes for up to a week, and sometimes you never have symptoms at all. But you can give it to other people during this time, and then they can get very sick.
That’s the purpose of the mask: to stop the asymptomatic positives from spreading it to others. The mask is not about fear, it’s about consideration.
Look at all the nitwits walking around outdoors wearing face masks even when there is nobody within 100 yards of them.
This country is filled with pathetic cowards. I don't expect anyone to behave recklessly, and I would want everyone to be cautious in the face of an unknown danger, but when it gets to the point of being irrational I'd say we have a serious problem.
The airline industry is predicting that it's going to take a minimum of 2-3 YEARS for passenger volumes to return to what they were before this fiasco. That's a disaster no matter how you look at it.
I suppose I could potentially get it and be asymptomatic but the wife and I are in the high-risk age group (I'm the youth at 67+) and I haven't heard any trends of us older folks being so lucky as to not suffer if we catch it.. We both take precautions because of our ages.
We have become a country of self indulgent cowards. Lord only knows what we will become once the last of the older generation (65 and up) passes on.
Sadly many of those frightened pearl clutchers are right here onFR.
