8 arrested at San Clemente protest against stay-home order

Deputies arrested eight demonstrators Thursday at a rally in San Clemente to protest COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, including a retired Orange County police chief who organized the rally, according to officials and published reports.
The protest began at about 9 a.m. and drew an estimated 200 people to the beach citys pier area, according to the Orange County Sheriffs Department.
The vast majority of demonstrators peacefully exercised their First Amendment rights, the department said in a written statement.
Unfortunately, despite numerous warnings prior to the event, some individuals chose to commit unlawful activity, the statement said. Eight people were arrested.
Four of those arrested were booked on suspicion of trespassing, and another three were booked on suspicion of failing to disperse, officials said.
But one of those arrested, identified as 55-year-old Alan Shane Hostetter of San Clemente, was accused of inciting a riot, destruction of city property, trespassing and resisting arrest, according to sheriffs officials and county booking records.
Hostetter organized the protest and is a former chief of the La Habra Police Department, the Orange County Register reported. He took a disability retirement from the department in 2010 after eight months as the citys top law enforcement officer.
Hostetter was taken into custody while attempting to dismantle fencing and refusing orders to stop, according to the Register.
He has organized three similar rallies in the past, the newspaper reported.
We always have and always will protect First Amendment rights, Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes said in a written statement. That does not entitle individuals to commit other violations of law. We appreciate the support we have received from the community as we defend the rights afforded to us by the Constitution and uphold the law.
Im letting the public see more info. You are the one who worked to hide the information you didnt like. You listened to multiple people in classified hearings say they had no evidence and yet go on TV and say the opposite. Transparency is now a must!
Slight correction on your tweet: I trust FBI & Director Wray. I dont trust @ODNIgov Directors @RichardGrenell or @RepRatcliffe. Theyre the ones with the shovels burying evidence to protect @realDonaldTrump. https://twitter.com/noahshachtman/status/1263855239628648449
Over the last few Winters here I bought some wonderful sweaters at a thrift shop. Nice thick comfy ones. However I never get to wear them. People’s houses are always so warm that they can’t be worn inside so what’s the point! I think this is the year I should be getting rid of them. Back to the thrift store they will go.
Poor little thing. I’m so glad she found him to help him.
When you woke up and remembered your busted windshield, did it seem like a nightmare?
“Mass casualty incident”: 600 doctors sign letter to Trump calling for end to lockdowns over health concerns
During a mass casualty incident, victims are immediately triaged to black, red, yellow, or green. The first group, triage level black, includes those who require too many resources to save during a mass crisis. The red group has severe injuries that are survivable with treatment, the yellow group has serious injuries that are not immediately life threatening, and the green group has minor injuries.
The red group receives highest priority. The next priority is to ensure that the other two groups do not deteriorate a level. Decades of research have shown that by strictly following this algorithm, we save the maximum number of lives.
Millions of Americans are already at triage level red. These include 150,000 Americans per month who would have had a new cancer detected through routine screening that hasn’t happened, millions who have missed routine dental care to fix problems strongly linked to heart disease/death, and preventable cases of stroke, heart attack, and child abuse. Suicide hotline phone calls have increased 600%.
Tens of millions are at triage level yellow. Liquor sales have increased 300-600%, cigarettes sales have increased, rent has gone unpaid, family relationships have become frayed, and millions of well-child check-ups have been missed.
Hundreds of millions are at triage level green. These are people who currently are solvent, but at risk should economic conditions worsen. Poverty and financial uncertainty is closely linked to poor health.
A continued shutdown means hundreds of millions of Americans will downgrade a level.
How much longer are people going to put up with this?
All the wrong people like Wray.
I keep my place nice and cool in the winter. I love cold weather. I get excited when it’s cold enough to wear a coat around here.
Yes, I’m waiting on calls back with quotes. Wish I had gone to the grocery store yesterday. Don’t know when I’ll get my windshield fixed as half the town needs it. Mine has thousands of tiny cracks like spider webs. Now I need to pick glass off my couch and living room floor. Manager says will board up today.
That's what I keep asking. Why is everybody just bending over & taking it?
Where is the ACLU, all the Civil Rights attorneys? Where is Jay Sekulow''s group ACLJ? Where are all the religious leaders demanding churches open - we still have Freedom of Religion don't we? Where are the Chambers of Commerce demanding business be opened? Were is the DOJ???
Every weekend millions of kids USED to participate in baseball, soccer, gymnastics, swimming..... Where are the parents demanding these events to begin again? Memorial Day used to be a HUGE 3-day tournament weekend.
“I would also like to see reports comparing the police treatment of homeless “violators” of conduct rules versus treatment of non-homeless “violators”.”
Good point.
There are classes of people here that don’t have to follow any rules, while ordinary Americans do.
