Inordinate amount of urine, feces left behind at NJ parks: officials

EXCERPT...
New JerseyAs New Jersey state parks reopened during the COVID-19 pandemic, parks police have reported an unsettling inordinate amount of urine and feces being left behind.”
State Police Superintendent Pat Callahan announced the disheartening information during Gov. Phil Murphys coronavirus briefing Monday.
There is a “zero tolerance” policy for anyone who is caught in such a situation, Callahan said. The whole idea behind parks is to give citizens time to enjoy fresh air and have time outside, he added.
“We understand restrooms are closed, but people should be planning accordingly and should not be urinating in bottles and leaving them behind,” Callahan said.
DOJ crackdown on China influence inside research universities expands to Arkansas

A Justice Department crackdown on secret Chinese influence inside American universities has expanded to Arkansas, where a longtime professor has been charged with concealing payments from Beijing while receiving federal funding from NASA.
A criminal indictment unsealed Monday evening revealed that Simon Saw-Teong Ang, 63, of Fayetteville, Ark., a professor since 1988 at the University of Arkansas and the director of its High Density Electronics Center, was arrested on a wire fraud charge.
The arrest comes after a major case brought in January against a high-profile Harvard University researcher.
he Justice Department on Monday filed a Statement of Interest asserting that South Carolina’s witness requirement for absentee ballots does not violate Section 201 of the Voting Rights Act.
The filing in a South Carolina federal court also notes that the court does not qualify to handle claims relating to Section 201 of the Voting Rights Act because a three-judge federal district court is required to hear such matters.
The Justice Department noted that if the court agreed with the plaintiff’s claims regarding Section 201 and completely blocked South Carolina’s witness requirement for absentee ballots, that decision would seem to ban such measures in other states as well.
The department noted that it did not stake out a view regarding any of the private plaintiffs’ other claims in the case.
“The Voting Rights Act outlaws certain practices that deprive Americans of the right to vote because of race and other protected traits,” Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband for the Civil Rights Division said. “The Voting Rights Act does not outlaw all voting-related requirements enacted by the States.”
