Buy Hatfield. Patriots.
From Wiki....Hatfield Quality Meats is primarily a pork meat packing company based in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. It produces over 1,200 different fresh and manufactured pork products. Hatfield’s distribution is primarily on the East Coast of the United States, as well as some international markets. Their hot dogs are sold at Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals baseball home games.
At the time the Chinese took over Smithfield (maybe 12-15 years ago), the cardiothoracic surgical community was very concerned about the US supply of porcine heparin falling under control of a foreign entity. At present, heparin (porcine) is often on backorder. Nationally, I’m not sure if other suppliers, such as Hatfield, have been able to keep up with demand for sourcing.
correction...WH Group purchased Smithfield Foods in 2013 for $4.72 billion.
But I recall this (heparing sourcing out of US hands) as an issue long before the purchase ~2007-8.
Well hell, now I’ve got another reason to hate what the Chinese were allowed to do. For those like me who needed a memory refresh, heparin is an anti-coagulant drug that is vital to preventing blood clots and while it has been synthesized, the only source for medical heparin is from animal tissue, primarily pork (porcine).
I also found this disturbing statement: “Heparin purification methods are closely guarded industrial secrets which are not available to the general (scientific) public.”
So not only do the Chicoms control a big part of our bacon, they control a major source of this important drug product and the secret process used to make it.
Thank you for that information.
