Steve Martin performs his funky musical parody "King Tut," which satirizes the popularity of the King Tut exhibit. Aired 05/22/78.

Video Here.

THANK YOU! I needed that smile! Yes, SNL was funny on the occasion and in the past! NOW? Rarely and unlikely!

Steve Martin - THANKS!

His first movie is still incredibly funny if a bit crude (at least by 1970s standards). The Jerk. Definitely worth a rewatch if you haven’t seen if for a while.

Only other one worth a watch is Planes Trains and Automobiles where he’s more the straight playing off of John Candy.

Avoid Sgt Bilko and Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid with malice.

“Funky Tut” would be a great FR screen-name!

Funny article about how 30 years later the video was played in a college humanities class for fun and to prompt discussion, but totally triggered social justice students into a frenzy, equating it to cultural appropriation and blatant racism.

Saw it live at a house party. Back when SNL was a 90-minute party-stopper...when it was great!

I was in Tut’s tomb in February. The old boy is still there in a glass case. Much of what was found is in the Cairo Museum. I could have spent days in that museum but only had two hours.

In the immortal words of my boomer college years: "f 'em if they can't take a joke."
