Jewish communities in NY continue to hold religious gatherings despite orders
ABC News ^ | April 7, 2020 | Staff

The centuries-old premium Jewish communities place on religious gatherings is running headlong into the need for isolation amid the unyielding coronavirus pandemic.

Like other religious institutions, Jewish communities around the country are attempting to adapt their traditions to government guidance designed to protect against the virus' spread, like holding online services and gatherings: virtual prayer in the wake of the current epidemic. But in and around New York, authorities complain that, far from discouraging gatherings, a few Orthodox Jewish leaders are leading prayer groups, celebrations and receptions that have been specifically prohibited by emergency orders in both New York and New Jersey.

Cuomo came out yesterday and said of people out in parks and doing stuff outside that “You don’t have that right”.

This Is what we can look forward to, tearing up the constitution by these Lefties.

As you have directly indicated that you cannot distinguish between a race and a religion, your sniveling equivocation means nothing of any sort.

“It certainly doesn’t appear as if concern for others might.”

If you are worried about your health you should take steps to safeguard it. You don’t have any right to demand that others circumscribe their lives and activities and economic wellbeing for you, ESPECIALLY to the point of destruction. PC always comes wrapoed in some fake, made up, pumped up moral absolute like this.

Your and your family’s health are YOUR concern. One you can demand Rights that I must deliver you demand too much.

It’s not even a fair representation of the religion.

The NK are the Jewish equivalent of the Westboro Baptist. I guess we need to start judging all Protestants by the WBs.

Monsey, New Square, Kiryas Joel.

All have significant issues getting along with others.
All practice separatism, some more than others.

BTW - do “normal Hasids” like you regularly bad mouth your Haredi brethren like that? curiouser and curiouser . . .

“As of 2018, New Square is by far the poorest town in New York, with a median annual household income of $21,773, which is nearly $5,000 below that of Kiryas Joel, the next poorest town in the state, and only about a third of the median income across the state as a whole.”

I get it. You don’t need lots of cash income in many communities. Big families, low income, Social Services for everything.

Yes, I badmouth the NKs.

Not sure where you get the BS that we are all welfare queens. Go look who has been a major supporter of this website for a decade. You’ll see me.

You might also want to go figure out who has trained US viper pilots for the last 24 years and find me. It’s not particularly hard to find out who I am in real life.

sadly it is no longer. The churches on the left continue to hold their daily sacrifices in abortuaries, the pot shops are open, subways and public transit remain open but religious services are proscribed and vilified.

My heart is broken as well. If my church had services I would go. I have been called many vile things for saying so. It is Ok for me to risk my life and my family by going to work in the hospital with inadequate PPE but if I wish to go to Church during Holy Week I am the lowest of low.

I have every right to expect that the State's reasonable rules and regulations in response to a pandemic be respected by all, regardless of their religious faith (or lack of it).

We know the importance of social distancing from Pandemics 101. (Society has been down this road before.) I'm sure that there are no small number of safeguards built into Jewish practices and customs that allow for the practice of the most common-sense creed: "Don't be stupid."

There are FIFTY people who are infected with connections to the attorney in Westchester who commuted to work in NYC; these are friends, family, neighbors, and fellow worshipers in his synagogue. www.cnn.com

(To be clear, I am not pointing the finger at the Westchester attorney; I have no idea what he knew or didn't know when he went to the synagogue or about his business.)

Knowing what we know about the potential for any individual to infect a complete stranger (with the possibility of deadly repercussions), then nobody has any business ignoring a reasonable directive from the civil authorities to avoid these gatherings.

Because it is a “RELIGION”. More about rules, procedures, etc, than worship or faith.

Lawrence Garbuz is certainly not a hasidic Jew. I believe he is nominally Modern Orthodox.
