Also, Americans practice some organic “social distancing” as a part of our culture and way of life. Outside of places like New York, Americans live farther apart, use less public transportation, walk around in public less, and spend less time in crowded places than Europeans do. I even remember reading that Americans tend to stand farther apart when they talk. Perhaps the models didn’t take any of that into account.
