USA: More videos by citizen journalists show that in hospitals described by US media as “war zones“ it is in fact still very quiet.

The hospital ships are for trauma and not set up for Covid-19

RE: But you knew that as I’m sure you actually read the article.

OK, I will bookmark this page to see how this military protocols have changed to accomodate 1,000 people.

I expect 1,000 people by next week.

“Why don’t you listen to what the doctors and nurses themselves are saying? My sister is a physician, and she went from being a “FluBro” to deeply concerned as soon as her hospital was flooded with COVID-19 patients.”
***************************************************
I think very few here think that it’s not a problem at all. I think many are like me in thinking that this is a serious pandemic that we are properly addressing. It is NOT a Spanish flu level event IMHO. When Governor Cuomo spouts that he urgently needs 18,000 ADDITIONAL ventilators and begs for additional hospital facilities and hospital ships. Then it turns out he has thousands of ventilators sitting in warehouses and the additional hospital beds remain largely vacant.

Cuomo is like the boy who cried wolf but his wolf never shows up. Instead, a coyote shows up which they can keep at bay...albeit with a lot of hard work and long hours. It will be interesting to observe how New York will deploy and manage the 85,000 volunteer “medical professionals” en route (according to what I just now heard on Fox News) to New York. It will be embarrassing if we begin to hear stories of many sitting around with little to do.

So no one really knows what to think about anything.

At the risk of sounding haughty, I've always thought I had a pretty good ability to sift through events, public or private, and quickly get a handle on what's really going on beneath all the chatter.

I have no idea what to think about this coronavirus thing. My opinion swings like a pendulum, sometimes daily. Weirdest thing for me.

New York City has the most cases. The USNS Comfort was brought in to assist the hospital case load. It can service up to 1200 patients. Yet, it has only 20 patients.

The concept of ‘war zone’ in the hospitals is simply being misused to to create more panic in almost every US location. New York is the epicenter of this and no doubt is the exception as some hospitals are at or near capacity. Especially in the ICU. The unique nature of this has no doubt created a high level of intensity in the hospital with the incredible abundance of caution being used to protect staff and manage the situation. It has to be horrible and I respect everyone stepping into harms way. It has to be awful, even in situations where the number of patients is not high. There has to be palpable fear in the air about what is happening and what could be still to come. That said, the patient load is likely below normal on most of the US.

Great post! Thanks.

I’m going to do a drive by through some local hospitals and check things out myself.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/04/03/actual-hospitalizations-for-coronavirus-significantly-lower-than-projections-in-model/

The Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) model cited by White House Coronavirus Task Force officials appears to dramatically overstate the hospitalization of patients with coronavirus in the United States when the model’s projections are compared to actual data, a Breitbart News analysis finds.

Breitbart News compared projections of the number of regular hospital beds needed to treat coronavirus patients made in the Friday, April 3 iteration of the IHME model for nine states to the actual number of cumulative hospitalizations (a number that includes current regular bed hospitalizations, current ICU hospitalizations, previously hospitalized and released patients, and previously hospitalized and deceased patients) reported by the respective health departments in those states as of Thursday, April 2.

The results showed that the actual number of cumulative hospitalizations as a percentage of regular hospital beds needed projected by the IHME model ranged from nine percent in Tennessee to 47 percent in Florida.

Even in New York State, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, the actual number of cumulative hospitalizations as a percentage of regular hospital beds needed projected by the IHME model was only 37 percent.

The first informed comment on this thread so far.
The hospital ships are not there for the Wuhan Flu per se. They are there to accept trauma patients in anticipation of the city hospitals being overwhelmed with Wuhan Flu victims and unable to cope with trauma cases. And, to protect trauma victims from being infected with the virus when their bodies are under extreme stress due to trauma.
Apparently, many of the city hospitals are unaware of this. Blame the mayor’s office for not communicating this clearly to the city hospitals.

Off topic but...
I remember the SJ mercury news ran a front page headline “376 die in seconds of terror”. About 6 months later, they won a pulitzer for the article. In reporting on the pulitzer they ran a picture of to original front page except...
It said “76 die in seconds of terror” (not376)

It said “76 die in seconds of terror” (not 376). I believe the ultimate death toll was 72. I haven’t believed the mainstream press ever since.

My nephew’s wife is the Infectious Disease head of a hospital in Westchester County north of Manhattan. Yes, she is pretty busy & they do have a number of Covid-19 patients. But they do have spare beds and spare ICU beds as well. Some of their management discussions have been around the question “where have the regular patients they normally see gone; they are somehow just not coming in and/or their doctors are not sending them in.” Is her hospital overwhelmed? No.

And because many to most people are not working, there are fewer car wrecks and industrial accidents, thus, less trauma.

On the flip side, I work for an essential company and am still going in to work. Freeways are great and I think you must have to really work to get pulled over. On Thursday, I was doing 15 over and got passed by not one but two troopers.

If Trump does something and takes credit for it, DeBlasio and the NYSlimes will find some way to make it look “too late” or “not enough”. Also the 20 patients on the “Comfort” was yesterday, I’m sure there are more today but you can always recycle yesterdays numbers for awhile to make Trump look bad. This sounds to me like the “not enough testing” from 10 days ago and now we have done 1.5 million tests.

The media to stay relevant has to try to keep everyone hysterical over this.
