Interesting. Right now, I am really sceptical about the efficacy of quarantines.
let's look at Flushing in Queens for example, where a lot of Chinese live in overcrowded tenements, with their parents, grandparents etc. It turns out, its one of the high concentration areas of coronavirus, in New York, which is no surprise.
When you have all these people copped up in overcrowded houses when some of them have already been infected, of course the older people, grandparents etc (who are more susceptible to infections of all kinds) are going to catch it from the younger people. It's just plan common sense.

But even without a quarantine, these people will still return to their overcrowded tenements at the end of the day after working long hours in restaurants, nail salons, and massage parlors. Seems to me that they have a greater risk of contracting and spreading the virus to people they live with without a quarantine than with a quarantine.

First time I ever heard of Flushing having overcrowded tenements. Brings uo an image out of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Actually Flushing has always been middle class people in one or two family homes or along Northern Blvd and Roosevelt Avenue in comfortable apartment buildings. Though your description of multi generations living together is accurate in many cases.
