A Strange Report from Santa Clara County, coronavirus hotspot
California Globe ^ | March 31, 2020 | Wayne Lusvardi

Posted on 03/31/2020 9:35:53 AM PDT by WLusvardi

Email: matthewmckee2@yahoo.com URL: Comment: I just don't understand the hype. If CNN reported 24/7 every year the case and death toll of the regular flu, nobody would ever leave their houses. Here in one of the hotbeds of COVID-19 (Santa clara county) the hospitals that the media have said are over run and the staff is overworked, how come the hospitals are actually empty. At Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, over 100 nurses are not working and nurses that are scheduled for 8 hour shifts are set home because there is not enough work to keep them there. Why is the governor asking for nursing students and retired nurses to work if this is the case. Who is behind the false hype? What is the real agenda?

President Trump needs to the hell out of doom and gloom DC and work from Camp David or Florida. He should also tour the rest of normal USA. He’s getting tunnel vision staying in DC.

We have 2 travelling nurses staying with us. We’re in Northern California.

.....

One is an Emergency Department nurse.

The hospital is a Tier 2 trauma center. They’ve got triage tent. Have a special unit set up for COVID-19 patients. Everything is ready.

I talk to her everyday and it’s always the same. Nobody is coming in. The place is empty. Most exciting thing all week was a kid broke a bone. One day she came back early because there was nothing to do.

One thing she complained about was it takes a long time to get results back, but that because until last week, California had only 1 certified private lab.

.....

The other is an ICU nurse at the same hospital.

The unit has 23 beds. Yesterday, he told me 12 were occupied. For them that’s slow.

2 did die last week but one was heart failure and the other from cancer.

It’s been longer than that, and I misremembered her as the receptionist.

I am in Pittsburgh where I think we are likely to have a problem for 3 reasons:

1) Largest elderly population outside of Florida
2) Big prestigious hospitals that draw infected people from all over the globe
3) Big universities teeming with foreign students

I don’t expect it will get as bad as New York though.

Regarding the virus patients haven’t flooded the hospitals at least not yet.... I noted about 3 weeks ago at our hospital they were pretty much set up for this virus.....the large physicians office I went to nearby wasn’t “buzzing” as usual rather appeared ready and ‘in the waiting mode’....

I’m very glad they weren’t really busy because this down time let them relax and have an extended break from the usual pace before the flood comes in, where they’ll be lucky if they can catch their breath. two weeks later it started and within less than a weeek the count went from 0 to over 40 cases....and even now it’s just begun.

The problematic thing about this Kung Flu PANdemIC is that doctors are hesitant to see other patients who, under normal circumstances, should be seen and checked out.

Case in point is my mother-in-law, who is in her mid-80s. For the past few days, she has had a bad case of the trots, and hasn’t eaten or drank much. When she called the doctor, he “treated” her by phone, gave her some suggestions on what to eat or not eat, and get back to him in a couple of days. If it weren’t for this Kung Flu thing, she should have seen him in his office and quite probably spent at least a night in the hospital so they could give her fluids intravenously to stabilize the situation.

Is this lockdown a good thing? Possibly, since it appears to be helping the spread of the virus, at least in places where people are listening. Still, we’ve allowed our fear of the disease to cloud our judgements when it comes to normal daily activities.

But hospital has been taking care of infectious diseases for years. Of course that is not going affect elective decisions by doctors and patients. I mean like I think now that when I leave the house there is a corona bug ready to jump down my throat. And when I get back there on the floor looking for me at the ready. And now I even wonder if I actually have it and don’t know it?.
And I don’t even watch CNN !
I just hope they don’t cancel football season!!
