What have I done to refute the proposition that this pandemic is fake? Seriously? I brought attention to this insanity by posting it and the calling of COVID-19 a fake isn't a proposition, it's a conspiracy theory so deep and deluded that even Alex Jones hasn't (as yet) offered it up. But here you are, discussing it among the blue hairs. It's good people get a glimpse of this trash, unfortunately it comes as fellow Americans are dying.

5%? LOL. The death rate is between 1-2% at the most. It seems to be about 1.6% in South Korea precisely because they did more testing. When you only test the people who show up deathly ill at the hospital, of course your death rate is going to come out higher. But the real death rate has to be based on EVERYBODY who gets the virus. So it’s almost certain that the real death rate is lower than every single death rate reported so far. But South Korea is likely to be the closest to the real rate.

I only work with real data, and I have not drilled down to country/region level. The world wide progression of the pandemic is important, as even in a country that seems to have it under control, there is always a danger of reintroduction if it is uncontrolled elsewhere.

Yes, but South Korea has such a good system that is only more prepared now than it was when this started. They will be just as successful at controlling any further outbreaks or spreading. This isn’t rocket science, but it is science. “Lock everybody inside and don’t let anybody do anything for months” is the approach of someone confused, ignorant and desperate. We need a balanced approach that accepts the basic principles of freedom, establishes guidelines that don’t interfere with daily life for most people, and quarantines only the sick or those coming in from outside the border.
