The pastor of a Tampa megachurch is facing charges after refusing to close its doors despite a "safer at home" order in effect in Hillsborough County, meant to stop the spread of COVID-19. The sheriff of Hillsborough County says one of two Sunday services had up to 500 people in attendance. Sheriff Chad Chronister and State Attorney Andrew Warren on Monday announced that an arrest warrant had been issued for Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne. He faces charges of unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency order.

Petty rights??!!! Payed for over and over with the blood of patriots. Get lost.
To be fair they were trying to get really rare Cabbage Patch dolls!
I miss going to church too but I’m not dying to go. They might as well have been throwing snakes around.
Did you ever think youd see the day when Christian megachurches shut their doors while refugees are seeking shelter from a hurricane yet stay open encouraging hundreds of people to gather together during a biological pandemic?
Follow the money.
I guess the Constitution means nothing anymore.
Donations go way down when people aren’t at church
I think you are correct, no matter the vitriol against you.
1. We ought to be able to worship where we want, when we want (1st Amendment).
2. We ought to be able to travel freely, where we want, when we want (Articles of Confederation, and subsequent).
3. It’s the old liberty/safety argument (Ben Franklin) and it should be up to each free citizen to decide for himself/herself.
In my opinion, not only are there constitutional rights/ideas here, but the church is not just “any” place in the world. I believe they are special places that are made up of not brick-and-stone, but of spiritual beings who are trusting God.
Lastly, there’s a lot of screeching from people who will “endanger” themselves to go to the grocery store or the hardware store or whatever if they make that decision for themselves.
But hey, the church is an easy target.
Did they bring back the Fugitive Slave Act?
Rodney Howard-Browne is a charlatan on a good day, so I have no sympathy for him. Does he still push that “holy laughter” nonsense? If he believed the Bible he would take Romans 13 a little seriously, which this proves he doesn’t. He’s no 1st amendment martyr, he’s an opportunist that should have been deported back to South Africa years ago.
I understand the point you're trying to make, BUT...if it's wrong for not just these people to congregate, and that EVERYBODY should self isolate, then who then would there be to go out and make everybody else sick?
If you're infected, but I'm self isolated, how do you infect me?
Oops.
You just logic-ed. Did you mean to logic?
‘Cause you did.
No place for that, here. It’s all about what you “think” or about what you “feel” in this moment.
And it’s sure not about logic. Or liberty. Or constitutionality. Or any of that kind of stuff.
Once again, I’m wishing for a like button on FR.
You know, this thread kinda makes me wonder:
There’s people on here who’ll scream about the First Amendment when it comes to speech. They’ll say it’s exactly FOR speech that you disagree with.
But we’re a little wishy-washy about Christians (who hold a different set of doctrines than we do) holding services when they wish...even now.
Makes me wonder how the keyboard Come-And-Take-It/Molon Labe crowd will do when there’s a group of men in black on their porch at 2:00 some morning.
Are they gonna break out “Ole Trusty” and start popping off at them, knowing they’re likely to be shot to pieces over it? Or are they gonna go with the flow and let someone else take up the fight?
When the rubber hits the road, our Constitution often takes a beating.
Because “safety”, you know.
Yes, that’s it! Pastor Carter Conlon has been the senior pastor since Pastor Wilkerson went to be with the Lord. Now he is on the board and Pastor Tim DeLena is senior pastor.
We could use several hundred David Wilkersons in the days we are living in
Yes, my friend, amen. Some good ones out there, but not enough.
“Give me a break. That jerk was spreading coronavirus among the congregation. He ought to be arrested”
Give us your best impersonation of an insane quack and tell us how the Kung flu was spread around.
Also tell us how people who stand around at the government Department of Motor Vehicles are okay to stand around 500 strong and avoid catching kung flu.
“Makes me wonder how the keyboard Come-And-Take-It/Molon Labe crowd will do when theres a group of men in black on their porch at 2:00 some morning.”
What makes you think that your gestapo buddies in ninja clown suits will make it to the porch?
