That’s rich, coming from a scared baby like you! Sheesh. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Do we really have an economy right now?
This won’t age well.
People are rightfully concerned about families who can't "telework" or otherwise sit on their ass and collect a check. They are not some national economic abstractions. They are real-life human beings who are being destroyed by this shutdown.
After signing a bill that incentivizes unemployment, I’m less enthused about a quick recovery.
I’ve said from the beginning that if people stop doing business, governments stop receiving tax money. That is the big one for me.
And a lot of Seattle restaurants closed their doors forever a month ago when that nursing home got hit.
The fact is that the longer this goes, the more the economy (world) shrinks. And this is not good for an economic model based on growth.
But make of it what you will.
Not a small business owner and none among your family, friends or acquaintances I suspect.
Theres every reason to be upset about looming economic calamity. Small businesses are the real engine of this country and they really cant hang on much longer.
As far as President Trump, hes aware and attempted to promote an early end to this. He appears to have been jawboned into extending it though. I trust the man but hes not always right, right out of the box. He corrects course quickly when it becomes clear that theres a problem so its forgivable.
I like your feelings and the tone of your post, but I am very concerned because there are a lot of people in this country who seem like they would be fine with a depression/recession so long as they would gain power, and Trump would go away. This is why every day with a shutdown is one more day in peril. You should be concerned.
We must find a way to restart our economy and coexist as soon as possible.
we need to be prepared for the rush when the shackles come off.
too many people chasing too few goods and\or services - like a bazillion people busting through the doors of Walmart when opening on “Black Friday”.
Maybe you could check with a few of the 3.2 million people that filed unemployment claims last week. How much higher will that number go over the next few weeks? We are literally in uncharted territory whether Trump proclaims ‘a quick recovery’ is likely or not.
Panicky? Remember the Patriot Act with it’s sunset clause that now basks in eternal sunshine? Of course the economy will rebound but at what cost?
The media message is about to switch over from:
1) “Trump didn’t do enough and is killing us”
(Nancy is spouting this message right now)
2) It will switch to “Trump did too much and is destroying the economy”
Then, when the economy recovers it will switch again to
3) “Trump sold us all out for his millionaire cronies.”
Bet on it.
Trump was criticized when he imposed the early travel ban with China. He is being criticized for wanting to give certain sectors of the Country a plan for getting back to work. Time will prove him right. A leader is someone who does not lead by consensus (Margaret Thacher).
Another voice/opinion BUMP! Good stuff. HOORAY Chief. Bipartisan EVIL is tough to overcome.
I am damn well concerned about it.
On the other hand, I temper this by the concept that the underlying foundations of the economy are good...there isn’t something rotten there, so...it isn’t as if there is something fundamentally bad.
But with every day that goes by, there are small businesses going out of business because they operate so close to the margin.
I am not worried about IBM. I am worried about Joe’s Computer Repair. There are a lot of those.
How many small businesses will survive a couple of months shuttered? How many tens of millions of jobs depend on those businesses? How many tens of millions of people will fall seriously behind on their mortgages or slide into crippling debt?
IMHO Aristotle was right...
The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates believed a womb was essentially an animal within an animal, that it wandered throughout a womans body and caused illnesses. Doctors prescribed many different remedies in an attempt to lure the uterus back to its seat. The theory that women could not keep their uteruses in place and thus keep them tamed was used by the philosopher Aristotle to justify why women were unfit to partake in politics.
The word for uterus is derived from the Greek root hystera, hence a surgery to remove the uterus is called a hysterectomy. The root hystera also appears in the words hysteria and hysterical, which, characterized by anxiety, irritability, and ungovernable emotional excess, were historically thought to manifest themselves only in women.
I honestly think you have it backwards. I havent panicked at all when it comes to the viral outbreak, but I believe the economic consequences will be devastating because the response of the American citizenry has given me no reason to be confident in the future of this country anymore.
So we can add to our list of grievances against THEM let’s record the names of who voted for this latest plunder...oh...wait...

535++++ vs 330 MILLION (how da do dat?)
In addition what your situation is during the shutdown process.
My family has enough financial reserves to carry us maybe 4 months, if I had to rely solely on those funds. Fortunately I ma still earning a paycheck, as is my wife also. I am able to work from home, while my wife has to physically appear at her place of employment.
If one or both of us were unable to keep our income stream, then our outlook would obviously be one of more concern.
Lastly, the type of business you make your income from plays a big role also. If it is a restaurant, for example, then after the virus is under control you may have no where to return to, to reopen your personal income stream.
So panic regarding income seems more likely and even understandable, then the panic that ensued due to the virus.
