What were learning from Iceland this week is as fascinating as it is crucial to fighting the coronavirus epidemic: That somewhere in the neighborhood of half of everyone testing positive for the coronavirus will show absolutely no symptoms. The hard data, out of Iceland, straight from their (impressive) health ministrys dedicated COVID-19 page: As of March 25, Iceland has administered 12,615 tests. Of those tests, Iceland has found 802 confirmed cases. While it might not sound like a lot, in a sparsely-populated nation of around 364,000 citizens, its an impressive number. Theyve nearly tested 3.4 percent of the entire country

Early results from deCode Genetics indicate that a low proportion of the general population has contracted the virus and that about half of those who tested positive are non-symptomatic, said [Icelands chief epidemiologist Thorolfur] Guðnason. The other half displays very moderate cold-like symptoms.

Probably not a good sampling of demographic groups, but an interesting data point. The fatality rate is probably much lower than reported.
Or the test shows lots of false positives.
Interesting given that in the US there is no testing without severe symptoms.
CDC dead on their collective butt.
Here is the article I read about the Iceland data. Does not answer many questions.
And our Country has tested what fraction again?
This is a concern. Obviously those showing the symptoms are quarantining themselves and getting medical attention. But those who show no symptoms can be inadvertently spreading it around to others.
CDC has an agenda so they should be considered a biased source.
“...weve tested 432,655 of our 327 million citizens, or just a tenth of one percent of our countrys population). Iceland currently claims to have tested more citizens per capita] than any other country in the world.”
Size of the inoculuum could be a significant factor in the severity of the disease.
For the last 2 weeks I get a fever spike of 102.3 around 10am then it calms down. Appetite normal but some lower gastro due to taking 500mg of azrithomyasan for last 4 days.
They do show no symptoms and can carry it to those who are vulnerable with whom it will be fatal.
I agree that those with no symptoms are a threat to spread the virus. I do not know if there were tests to see if positive results eventually showed symptoms.
People act like every sick person is known and has been tested. They quote number like gospel.
Fact is, the CDC could be right that 45+ million have already been infected, some got sick, and the infection rate and death rate is very, very low.
>>Or the test shows lots of false positives.
to spread as widely as it has, many people have a mild cases with little to no symptoms.
Sort of good news bad news.....seems like near everyone will be exposed eventually but 1/2 will not show any illness...
Good point. What I was thinking too.
I would love to know if I had it. There's a good chance my husband and I both had it 2 weeks ago and just had mild symptoms (my husband had a direct exposure to a symptomatic person). Our two teenage sons have experienced even milder or no symptoms.
“HALF OF CORONAVIRUS CARRIERS SHOW NO SYMPTOMS”
That’s probably the case with most viruses, including some of the the most severe historical pandemics. Not really a startling revelation.
Okay, but are the asymptomatic people spreading the virus?
