Beau started building the two raised beds around the greenhouse. The slope is too steep to mow, so we thought this would be a good solution. There will be a 2' walkway between the two beds on the south and the two beds on the west, for easier maintenance of the beds. The south-facing bed will be roses and various perennial fillers; the west side will be perennial herbs, annual herbs and annual edible flowers. So excited!

The Plan:

The Beginning:

And, of course, it's rained every day since he got the footings cemented in, so it's a work in progress for a while.

Thank you for the ping. Well, learn the hard way. I wanted to give my 3 week old (from seed planting) Early Girl toms some outside sun, and since it was finally sunny and up to mid 50 then I put them outside aroud 11AM to about 5PM, and about half died, and did not revive.

But these were started too early any way, and I still have a lot of seeds I saved, and some 4th of July tomatoes a neighbor gave me, so this week I hope to start them, and have them in the garden about mid May. Thanks and glory be to God.

It was another wet week here in Central Missouri. Bad hailstorm 30 miles south of here last night. Car windows busted, vinyl home siding shredded, roofs destroyed, etc. No damage here, just had a lot more rain that we don’t need.

Nothing going on in the garden. Can’t even walk across the lawn without sinking in the mud.

I think I'm just going to come here...for awhile. Much more laid back...

Well....I tried to buy some Pansy's on line..No can do.

Didn't want to drive 60 miles to buy some...so bot some seeds.

I have always thought Pansy's were misnamed...cuz they are way tuff...and pretty!! ha!! Anyway...

Well....turns out I bot a bunch of seeds....And the instructions were weird..place them into the frig..for a few days. Huh???

Then plant them...but place them into a dark place. ??? HUH???

I did all that...and just looked at the seedling's...and they are "doing something"...Ha!!

So I eased them out to a shady part of my "G"

I like to garden but this is strange!!

HA!!!!

40 degrees here this A.M. Supposed to get high 60's...

For all the bird lovers out there, you will enjoy this:

I worked on the raised beds today, running a hoe through to make sure the weeds stay away (8 beds total) - 3 are cut flower beds (1 is brand new) & I’m taking one of my veggie beds for flowers, too so we’ll have 4 total this year.

Last year, with zinnias, tithonia, sunflowers & some other flowers in a mixed packet, we had some beautiful beds. The one that had a sunflower & tithonia was a big hit with the butterflies and hummingbirds. We’re hoping for a similar flower garden/experience this year. I also planted a late garden of zinnias the end of August - flowered into early November and the bees/butterflies were still coming, probably surprised they could find blooms so late.

So back to the birds - hummingbirds will be here soon & I expect to see a lot of goldfinches as well in breeding plumage of bright gold. Bluebirds abound & are checking out the bluebird houses. We have flocks of robins, at least 5 pairs of cardinals & a pair of fat doves that hang around the bird feeders.

Spring is definitely in the air along with clouds of yellow pine pollen as of this weekend ..... and then it hit 90 at our place this afternoon - whew!! Spring, we hardly knew thee!
