They wouldn’t, but all the people they infected would generate some nice hotspots. Best data we have says 45% of all cases are symptomatic.
With an R0 north of 2, every one of your asymptomatics is going to infect 2+ people, one of whom will display symptoms. After infecting 2+ other people. And so on.
They don’t exist, or the mechanics of this disease are so bizarre we might as well throw in the towel.
Maybe if you are not sick, but a carrier, it just waits until you are sick with something else to activate. Wouldn’t that suck? (That’s a horror story, not a hypothesis, for the record.)

maybe we are an exception. If there’s significant immunity, probably better to look in SFO and LAX where the Asian and Iranian populations are higher?
But asymptomatics are not going to be all that contagious/transmitting, (I’m sure R0 pretty low), because they wouldn’t be coughing and sneezing much, by definition.
We do have some exceptions that may matter. Don’t know yet and can’t quantify them.
We use a lot of energy- it doesn’t like heat.
We’re more spread out.
We have quality sewage, etc.

I am firmly in the “Test ABSOLUTELY Everyone” camp.
But that is to catch every last case and so people that are immune can be tapped for the war effort in one way or another. Vaccine donors, store clerks, soldiers, food delivery guys, etc. Then the rest can be vaccinated and treated as needed.
I know the FluBros will be just as outraged by that suggestion, but they can go take a %$=@*& (@$& at a rolling donut as far as I am concerned.
It wouldn’t be feasible, but it sure would solve the problem in a lot less time than we are currently looking at. How do we process 350 million tests fast enough? Pull people out of quarantine as they “pass”? I dunno. We could do the census at the same time, LOL.
It’s all song and dance until they get the PPE made. China stole our surplus and our factory.

That also occurred to me. People who are asymptomatic or nearly so might be getting an extremely low viral load, similar to what they’d get in a vaccine. Their bodies can more easily build the antibodies without getting overwhelmed with symptoms. It is possible that they’d also be less contagious to others around them. That is the primary reason I wear a mask and gloves. I hear all the noise about how it will not protect because the virus is so small, but any mask is far from useless if it cuts down on the number of viruses that get to me. Even if I am not completely protected, a lower dose might make me less sick.
We should also consider fomites in the thought experiment.
I had to laugh over the waste of publication space. My obvious retort would be, I don’t recall masks being part of The Great Leap Backward so what cultural thing? Clean up the freaking pollution in Asia and nobody would have to wear masks ‘culturally’.
My wife and I started self-isolation on March 5. She taught a substitute class on March 3 and we did our final isolation shopping on the 4th. The Grand Princess was our trigger point because her pastor and his wife were on board.
