They were the toast of Hollywood, the ultimate kings of cool: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. The group of actors, singers and entertainers known as 'the Rat Pack' became synonymous with Hollywood glamour, late night jam sessions at the fabled Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, and the heady golden days of Camelot.

Watch the Dean Martin Roast of Sammy Davis Jr., Wilt Chamberlain, Lucille Ball, Angie Dickenson...for example...in the context of today’s über repressive “political correctness”. No one was offended and it was all in good loving spirit,
Exactly
Looks like mostly limos driving around.
Closest thing was when we flew out of Orlando on 9/21/2001. Seeing the Orlando airport basically empty was spooky.
“I just watched the 1978 Dean Martin roast of Frank Sinatra over the weekend. I knew every person on the show, someday I might write a book”
Want to watch something fun? Watch Dean and Frank on the Tonight Show when Joey Bishop hosted for Johnny. It’s a hoot.
(Gramps knows his trivia).
I’m a young buck myself, and I wish we could return to the days of class. These guys exuded professionalism but had a great time doing it. Nowadays it’s every man/woman for themselves in show business, and the more crass the better.
Very interesting. Those were wild-assed times and people...sort of pent up post WW2 exuberance and booming economic times and technical innovations.
I always enjoyed Dean Martin, especially his Christmas albums. The death of his son in that accident had to have devastated him. I haven’t read or heard of any stories of him being a horrible father, like you hear about some actors.
My home schooling didn’t just consist of the basics but loads of history and first accounts of experiences.
Sammy Davis, Jr. was an incredible performer. When I was young, I was visiting my father in NY over the summer, and he was taking his girlfriend at the time to see him live, and he took me too. I really wasn’t interested in going, I was only 9 or 10 at the time, but I did like his song, “The Candyman.”
Even as a little kid, I was really amazed and thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Looking back at it, I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to see him perform live. Of course he was a great singer and dancer, but he was also a terrific comedian and did some of the most amazing impressions. He was a consummate performer.

What was Peter Lawfords talent that got him a place on the marquee at the dunes?
He was a terrific talent and personality. “Candyman” is great and his “Mr. Bojangles” still tears me up.
If you haven’t seen it, she did a really terrific movie some years ago with Nicholas Cage called “Guarding Tess.”
It was a really fantastic movie, even if, or especially if, you don’t like Nicholas Cage’s more recent movies.

Dean was always great on The "Tonight Show." Nobody has ever come close to Johnny Carson for a late night talk show. He was a class act.

Peter Lawford? Come on, man!
He was married to a Kennedy.
He was a terrific talent and personality. “Mr. Bojangles” still tears me up. “Candyman” is excellent too.
I must’ve missed something:
Rowan and Martin??????
Brother in law to JFK and Hollywood actor.
