SPAIN

Spanish soldiers find bodies in retirement homes
AFP / PIERRE-PHILIPPE MARCOU
The ice rink at the Palacio de Hielo, or Ice Palace, shopping centre in Madrid was made into a morgue to deal with a surge in deaths in the capital
Spanish soldiers deployed to help fight the new coronavirus outbreak have found elderly patients abandoned, and sometimes dead, at retirement homes, as an ice rink inside a Madrid shopping mall was turned into a temporary morgue to cope with a surge in cases.

The army has been charged with helping to disinfect retirement homes in Spain, one of the countries worst hit by the pandemic. Dozens of deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded at facilities across the country.

“We are going to be strict and inflexible when dealing with the way old people are treated in these residences,” Defence Minister Margarita Robles said in an interview with private television channel Telecinco.

“The army, during certain visits, found some old people completely abandoned, sometimes even dead in their beds,” she added.

An investigation has been launched, the general prosecutor announced.

The coronavirus death toll in Spain surged to 2,182 on Monday after 462 people died within 24 hours, according to health ministry figures.

Was just reviewing an epidemiological study from early on in the outbreak. The section on Taiwan is interesting and they were able to practice containment versus mitigation in other countries. There is no way our Flu Broism culture would accept big data analytics. This is what is being practice in countries with containment.

Good reference. The Taiwanese do not trust China and were able to lock down quickly.

Taiwan is a country geographically near China and has a close contact with China, which makes it more susceptible to COVID-19 spread. To manage this challenge, infection control measures including prohibiting travel from China, controlling the distribution of mask, extensive investigation of COVID-19 spread, and at once daily press conference to inform and educate people by government were aggressively conducted in Taiwan (Figure 3A). Under these interventions, Taiwan has a total of 39 cases with a DCI of 1 case per day, which was much lower than that of the nearby countries, such as Republic of Korea and Japan (Figure 3B). Among the 39 patients, 18 acquired the COVID-19 infection outside Taiwan, of whom three of them were Chinese visitors from China, while the other 21 developed the infection in Taiwan.

Four familial cluster transmissions and one nosocomial transmission were reported. To date, 11 patients were discharged (Figure 3C). Several important actions and responses conducted by the National Health Command Center of Taiwan, including border control, resource reallocation, case identification (using new data and technology), quarantine of suspicious cases using the big data analytics, reassurance and education of the public, mask control and of hand hygiene, and formulation of policies toward schools and childcare, have so far successfully alleviated the crisis and contained the epidemic in Taiwan.

Global epidemiology of coronavirus disease 2019: disease incidence, daily cumulative index, mortality, and their association with country healthcare resources and economic status

I'll be posting some new an interesting papers into the morning. I have dug down into a recent one that demonstrates ACE2 expression in skin. Possible some of the rumors we heard were true.

Thanks for posting that article, of the personal report, from China.

From the article....

..They were allowed two hours, including the 45-minute walk each way.

This is what it’s looked like:

Those two hours are every two days. Before Sunday, it was strictly to the grocery or pharmacy — “to get essentials, no frivolous travels, no BS.”

Security (either government or the local building complex) makes sure, taking your temperature in both directions, swiping an app on your phone that records risk level. Any sign of fever, and you are taken away to an Orwellian-sounding “fever hospital” (so as to not make anyone else sick). If they suspect it’s COVID-19, it’s then a gauntlet of other tests and isolation. Defy it and you’re “rounded up.” ..

==

A guest on Tucker’s show, tonight, said that ‘we know where China is taking these people who have fever....straight to the incinerators’....or, something to that effect.

Yikes.

Jane, you know that over 21 million Chinese have dropped off the cell phone services there.

Far more than 3,500 died. Far more.

LA stopped making the test available (to non celebrities).

Sometime this afternoon, Louisiana stopped more people from testing, having reached the limit of their capacity.

I think Mardi Gras caused a blossoming of CV and we are seeing its local effects three weeks later. Reports in other states also indicate people caught it at Mardi Gras and returned home with CV.

Yep.

Didn’t someone say there were (early) pics, when the incinerators were first detected, of piles of cell phones?

Killing fields, all over again :(

It’s just too horrific.

We saw the vids of people being pulled out of their cars, apartments, etc.....screaming/crying.

Torture!!

Are your in-laws having to deal with these quarantines/curfews/temp checks?

That article was eye opening. My first thought was, we are in big trouble. Our respective governors won’t even shut down the endemic areas 😩

I don’t know if any doctors have ever died from seasonal flu contracted from a patient. I can’t find a mention from 2009, which even lists a feline death. This could be attributed to H1N1 having a low Ro.

But we do know they’re getting infected and dying from the Wuhan Virus in Iran (at least a dozen there), Italy and China, Pakistan, France, Nigeria and the Philippines, just for a look in the window

"...coronavirus survived..."

FAKE NEWS

"SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted (Takuya Yamagishi, National Institute of Infectious Diseases, personal communication, 2020)."
