Maybe you’re thinking of Lewis Carroll? He is rumored or thought to have used opium, just did a search, and there is evidence there. I did sevearl searches actually and could find nothing connecting C.S. Lewis to opium. It also does not seem consistent with his life, beliefs or writings.
I think you mean Lewis Carroll. He is the author of “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.” CS Lewis was also British, but was a very strong Christian. He wrote “Mere Christianity,” among many other wonderful books.
