According to the CDC, as of now:
Total cases: 3,487
Total deaths: 68
Of those 68, how many were 70+, and/or had an underlying, exacerbating condition (like the 21-year old soccer coach who died of the coronavirus... And oh yeah, by the way, hed been battling leukemia (an immune system compromising cancer) for some time before getting infected with coronavirus).
Its ok though. You go stock up on toilet paper, hide under your bed, and enjoy binge-watching Sex and the City or Golden Girls or whatever your terrified little mind can wrap itself around.
It's not just 85 year olds dying; its the 10% - 20% who need hospital beds, ventilators, ICU; which then swamp the system.
It's the morbidity, not the death rate.
Unless the system gets swamped, then the death rate skyrockets. Because gunshot victims, accident victims, car wreck victims, cancer and heart patients, etc....compete for the limited number of _available_ ICU beds.
