With that number, a lot of them won’t be hospitalized, but left to languish at home, due to hospital overcrowding, IMO. Hopefully, they will survive.

How is it that the world is up to their ears in available test kits and we have almost none?

Good grief. Most of their cases are clustered in Seattle-land, as far as I know. Let the counties make the determinations for now.

Sounds like the measure d’ jour.

I see a pattern, here.

Have any conservative Govs done this, yet?

Many folks have already imposed this measure, on themselves.

Except for the, um, deniers.

For one, the CDC ignored the problem and claimed in a presser they weren’t set up for dealing with such as this. Ok, then who the heck is? Passing the buck. My old tagline was a quote straight from their website back during Ebola that they didn’t know how Ebola was transmitted when African were putting up prevention signs everywhere.

This time around, all the CDC can come up with is to wash your hands and that masks don’t work on Joe Average and only work on health care workers.

Second, when Pence finally lit a match under them, they decided to make some tests. Of course, their incompetence came back to bite the entire nation in the butt with failed tests.

Third, so they fix the test but can’t seem to get them sent out to all states. May we should have handed that job over to the mega monster, Amazon.

Fourth, they have now gotten on their high horse because state and private labs came to the rescue and are doing their own lab results. But, NOOOOOOOO! The CDC now wants tests to be sent to them which only delays the results. Whaaaaaa! If the CDC can’t run the tests then they aren’t stamped with a gold star to get into the “official” count.

Fifth, now that they are handing out gold stars of approval on the original test results, they’ve decided to hold up reporting the “official” numbers for days. Big whiny babies.

Yeah, if they weren’t set up to do this, then by golly hand it over to someone who can and will get the job done. The CDC is a total and miserable sham.

I’ve seen restaurant kitchens, no thanks. I’ve seen black dirt under waitresses finger nails. I’ve seen their filthy restrooms and how employees don’t wash their hands. I’ve seen the filthy hands that fold together pizza boxes. We’ve heard the tales of delivery people nibbling out of the order. Ick. No thanks.

Thinking Walmart made all stores close at 11 and open at 6.

Same idiotic idea as our HEB closing between 8 and 8. It is the only grocery in many of our counties. We have 12 short aisles in the local store so why would it take all night long to restock it? Besides, shorter hours make for more crowded stores and there goes that social distancing.

The closest Walmart is always well stocked and they get the restocking done with no interference on the customers or the customers onto them.

I’m not believing “restocking” is the real reason. What’s the real cause?

Indeed. It’s best to let the trolls post at will. Once they realize noone is responding they tend to go away. I’m here solely for the information many thoughtful FReepers post. It helps me to be better prepared for what may occur.
I hope it doesn’t get bad in our country but I fear the governments of the world know far more than is being released to the public. We shall see in time. God will see that His brothers and sisters persevere in this fight wearing the full armor of God.
Have a blessed night.

Gov. Reynolds recommends Iowa schools close for four weeks, will hold a press conference tomorrow

Sun, 03/15/2020 - 20:10
Recommendation follows additional COVID-19 cases in Iowa, including data from national labs

DES MOINES - Upon discovery of the existence of substantial community spread of COVID-19 in the state, Gov. Reynolds is recommending that Iowa schools close for four weeks.

“Based on new information today from the Iowa Department of Public Health, now is the time to move to the next level of response,” Gov. Reynolds stated. “I am now recommending that all Iowa schools close for a period of four weeks to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

Gov. Reynolds released the following video statement, it can be viewed here.

Gov. Reynolds is making this recommendation in consultation with the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and based on CDC guidelines.

Earlier today, IDPH was notified of four additional positive cases of Iowans with COVID-19, for a total of 22 positive cases. According to IDPH, two cases are related to international travel. The individuals are residents of Allamakee County, one is a middle-age adult between 41-60 years; the other is a child, age 0-18 years. The third case is a middle-age Johnson County resident with no identified travel-related risk or exposure to a known COVID-19 case, and is considered the second case of community spread in Iowa. The fourth individual resides in Polk County and is a middle-age adult and indicates a third case of community spread.

One of today’s new cases was the first Iowa test conducted by a national lab. With testing options now expanding, Iowa expects the numbers of positive cases to increase. The governor will hold a press conference tomorrow. The press conference will be open to credentialed members of the press and streamed on her Facebook page.

The state of Iowa is developing policies to ensure continued access to child care during this time of emergency, including meals for low income students.

Also today, Gov. Reynolds signed a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency continuing the proclamation signed on March 9, allowing retailers that sell liquor, beer, wine, carbonated beverages, and other beverages with an Iowa beverage container deposit to stop accepting empty cans and bottles for the duration of this disaster emergency.

On Sunday evening, the CDC updated its mass gathering guidance to postpone for the next 8 weeks any events with 50 or more people. The goal is to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

COVID-19 was first linked to an outbreak in Wuhan, China, but cases have subsequently been identified in several countries, including the U.S. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Those most at risk of the virus are older adults, and individuals with underlying health conditions.
