It was just about the only protein they got from outside during WWII.

I bought some canned chicken earlier this week. Don’t think I have ever eaten it before.

I just refuse to EVER eat SPAM.

I loaded up on different flavors of chicken sausage and pit them in the freezer, though.

Fry your Spam like bacon.

Excellent. You may never go back.

It was one of the few things shipped in to the islands during WWII. SPAM is also considered a delicacy of sorts in South Korea— it was introduced during the Korean War I’ve heard.

Other “Hawaiian” staples:

Canned Vienna Sausages
Canned Corned Beef (the sort from Brazil/Argentina)
Canned Pork & Beans

Slice spam about 1/4 inch and pan fry it. Not so bad. It’s website has lots of recipes.

Cut in thin, 1/8" thick slices. Top with mashed potatoes, add a tablespoon of orange marmalade on top of the potatoes. Bake in the oven until the potatoes are slightly browned.

My former daughter-in-law topped with rice and a sweet sauce. Google "loco moco" for lots of examples
