Time to stay calm and continue on....
Yesterday's thread is here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3823193/posts
Also no panic buying in my part of DFW. Walked into a local Krogers and there was plenty of toilet paper and liquid soap was on sale.
They did have a limit of 5 units of soap and sanitizer.
Governor? on now (I think):
Hundreds if not thousands more on our streets who may not know they have the virus.
Events with more than two hundred and fifty people prohibited.
Applies to three counties with significant community transmission.
Most who hang on this thread seem reasonable. On some other threads, not so much. There is a contingent who seems to relish and wants to see more of it. They seem more invested in their importance in being “right” that it’s really bad than in any success in dealing with it.
Practical steps—very simple:
Quarantine (mandatory, not voluntary).
Close the airports.
Quarantine state by state.
Then governors create their own quarantine areas.
No half measures.
Then you will _pause_ it, not _stop_ it.
No nation has _stopped_ it.
We are heading to breakfast out and the grocery store. Will observe and report back on what we see.
Buck fifty gas and plenty o’ buttwipe.
You guys got it made!
Yo, CDC, many on this thread, young and old, are 6+ weeks ahead of you on stocking up and long past the “considering” stage. I probably always have washed my hands (and thumbs) more than the average CDC employee, but thanks for coming to the party even if you are way late.
Seems anyone over 50 and those in any way compromised are useless wastes of oxygen these days.
Geez, noticed on the video they’re advising to save the liquid off canned goods as they are pouring it down the sink. BTW, the liquid off the tuna for sandwiches tonight will be greatly enjoyed by the kitties. Yep, that’s another way ahead of fashionably late CDC.
People around here are already freaking. Was in sams club and saw people with 6 and 8 cases of tp, 10s of cases of water and not a clorox bottle or disinfectant wipe to be found.
Still some to and water in wm, but disinfectant wipes and bleach were gone.
Bought a bow of 22s and clerk asked me how many boxes I wanted.
Don’t ask, don’t tell. If it weren’t for the dead guy they shoved in the fridge, they might have gotten away with it on the first ship.
A failure to plan is planning to fail.
Inslee is going to be playing a day late, a dollar short for the duration.
WA will be the US petri dish on this one....
We’ll see, in 2 or 3 weeks, if our ICU’s are overflowing with 40 somethings and 65yr+ are being denied treatment altogether.
We all hope not.
(Unless you’re amoral and think you’re getting a bundle from gramma. in which case I speak for most people here and elsewhere and express a fervent wish ‘gramma’ has left it all to the ASPCA).
“Allergy season”
I had allergy early last week and this week. I had a dry cough with inching throat, nose drip but with no fever or anything else. Got a little worried, on Allergy Meds now, the issues went away.
The season pop up out of no where this year. Everybody beware of it.
Makes me wonder, that guy in the freezer on the ship in Bayonne.
Washington Governor Inslee asks all schools to begin contingency planning for possible school closures in the next few days
Just a sneeze every few hours, and that has happened every spring while in Texas.
Washington Governor Inslee
adding hospital space..
making plans for possible 1000’s of people needing serious medical attention
Maybe there there was an internal threat (CDC).
To each his own. I’ve seen commercial kitchens and many aren’t clean enough to feed my dog. Nix on the sneeze guards and community serving spoons. No, I don’t want germy hands touching and nibbling off my plate. I’ll do my own cooking so I know it’s safe or at least only contaminated with my germs. Shopping and bringing the food home, I know for certain it’s been washed well.
I can sit right here at my desk with an open window and smell the clean outdoors and watch the ducks and geese swim by. There’s all kinds of fresh fish just feet from the back door. Fresher than that frozen stuff on a cruise.
I’d be diving off the back end of the ship if I had to deal with 6000 people non-stop 24/7. Give me peace in the country any day.
I would have no problem with that. But it will be a disaster for the economy, the stock market, hourly workers. The 401-k holders will be out in the streets with weapons. And layoffs will break all records. But if that is the only way to stop it, I have no problem.
But I can assure you, it is not politically possible and not going to happen. Any other ideas which are possible in practical terms?
Per KSTP-TV (ABC Affiliate in Minneapolis-St Paul), Minnesota has its 4th case of COVID-19:
No specific details yet. Olmstead County Public Health officials will hold a press conference later. For those of you geographically inclined, Olmsted County is about 75-90 south/southeast of the Twin Cities. The county seat is Rochester - home of the Mayo Clinic.
