As you may or may not know, I only really started taking care of the diabetes in 2017, though I was diagnosed in 2010. Even then, my control has been kinda bad. I sometimes see a blood sugar near 300, but I am getting better.
Some of my neglect has caught up with me.
Friday morning, I noticed I was seeing double when driving. I went to the doctor for a previous appointment, unrelated to this. I didnt bother to mention this issue because it came and went, and I figured it was just eye strain or something.
Well, it got worse Saturday. My optometrist is open on Saturday, at 11AM, but I ended up calling the on-call doctor (they say to call if it is an ocular emergency. I figured this was close enough to an emergency.
So I got in touch with him, and he told me to come in right at 11AM, and that he would bump his previous persons appointment, because this is serious. I came in, he looked me over (retinas, eye movement, prescription change). When he got done he told me what has likely happened is that one or two of the 6 major nerves, or a blood vessel feeding one of the eye muscles had either a stenosis (narrowing) or aneurysm (swelling). He would be concerned if is is an aneurysm, so wed want me to get to my normal doctor)first thing on Monday in an emergency basis, and at his recommendation, to order a scan (CT or MRI) using angiogram / radioactive fluids so they can see whats going on it there. So I will need to do these things to maybe get my eyes back to normal function.
There is a bit of good news the optomologist said the prognosis for a recovery in weeks or months is pretty good, because my pupil function was perfectly okay. He told me the body will come up with new blood vessels to feed the nerve and the muscle that is in a state of palsy, and that if there is nerve damage, even that can be repaired. If it does not work out, that there are surgeries possible to repair things. Not sure that is a great option, I dont see how they could correct that.
The level of double vision is extreme when I am driving, but near-in looking at a computer screen seems to be okay. If that deteriorates, I should be able to keep going by wearing an eye patch and using one eye.
Needless to say, I am terrified. The one thing I do not want to lose is my sight.
Prayers up buddy!
FATHER GOD. GREAT PHYSICIAN. HEALER.
Thank You for Your only Son JESUS CHRIST Who won the victory over sin and death. By His stripes we were healed. All honor, praise, power, and glory belongs to You.
Scriptures say: The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly ~ PSALM 146:8.
In the Name of JESUS CHRIST we cast all fear that Lazamataz may have concerning his health. You, GOD have not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Fill him with Your power and love, and may Lazamataz realize You are in control of his situation and promise to see him through.
May HOLY SPIRIT touch Lazamataz’s nerves and blood vessels. Restore them and make them whole. Cause any aneurysm to dissipate and may his restored eyesight amaze the physicians who read the results of the CT or MRI scan. May Lazamataz not have any reaction to the radioactive fluids
Help Lazamataz take care his body and eat the right foods. We ask You to heal him of diabetes. Heal him completely from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. We ask
HOLY SPIRT to flow through him and make him whole.
Thank You for Lazamataz’s presence on Free Republic and how he lifts others’ spirits with his humor. Laughter is good medicine.
In JESUS’ Name we pray. AMEN.
Praying for your complete and uneventful recovery!
Love seeing your posts on FR, please take care of you!
Sounds scary, take care of yourself man. We need you.
Lord God Jesus Christ, restore the fullness of vision to Thy servant and our friend.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
Praying for rapid and complete healing.
I was diagnosed, just a few years ago myself. Vision was okay, but nerve pain and numbness in my fingers and toes was becoming a problem.
I went balls to the walls to battle this.
I cut out ALL sugar! I gave up EVERYTHING! Sugar, milk, candy, baked goods, white bread, pasta, potatoes, and on and on.
I read EVERY label of everything for sugar content.
My daily counts and A1C improved dramatically.
I lost 75 pounds.
Here are some plusses, I added honey to my coffee. It’s sugar, but absorbed differently.
100% Whole Wheat Bread. NOT “wheat bread”, 100% Whole Wheat Bread. No high fructose corn syrup. All brands are not alike, check the sugar content and ingredients.
Whole wheat pasta, whole wheat tortillas.
Almond milk “unsweetened”. My main drink is unsweetened ice tea, that I make myself. I add a splash of lime, or a splash of cranberry juice (lower in sugar than other juices) and lately apple juice, since I am doing so well.
Cranapple Iced Tea! (Mister Coffee Iced Tea Maker a must)
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Ketchup is okay. READ LABELS. Sugar amounts AND serving size.
AVOID all the cancer causing sugar substitutes. Substitute honey or NOTHING! It would be a shame to survive diabetes only to die from cancer. NO DIET SODA! NO SODA!
Water and unsweetened ice tea are available at almost EVERY restaurant.
BONUS! I pay no bottle or can fees and I don’t have to store and return any bottles and cans!
VITAMIN B-12. I can’t say enough about B-12. 90% eliminated my nerve pain! I do take more than an average dosage, but heh, I’m above average! I do take many other supplements for various reasons. It’s hard to say what effect they have on my diabetes.
I hope this helps Laz or anyone else with diabetes.
Oh, by the way. What made me change my ways on this was what my doctor told me when I said “ yeah doc, but I feel fine”. Then he said: “Sure, you’ll feel fine, right up to the moment you drop dead from a stroke”.
Wake up call!
Does he have a cute nurse?
Prayers up for you Laz. Time to take the diabetes serious even though I hate doctors too.
AMEN. GOD’S Will be done on Lazamataz.
Praying for you Laz. I had a detached retina in the fall of 2018, had the surgery to reattach, then it re-detached just before Christmas 2018. Had it reattached again with a buckle and some silicone oil, which needs to be drained. Going in for that this Friday. Its scary as hell, the prospect of permanently losing my eyesight in my right eye if it re-detaches again. I do fairly well with just using my good eye, but the depth perception is not great. I am an artist and it has cramped my style a bit. I am writing this to let you know the eye surgery is really no big deal, its nothing like I thought it would be, and nothing to worry about. Im so happy to hear you have most likely not done permanent damage, and be thankful we dont have socialized medicine. Theyre gonna fix you right up. Please change your diet though. No sugars or carbs, or minimal anyway. Get a lot of exercise. Take herbs and supplements that support eye health. /lecture off.
BAGSTER a pretty close second. (I'm including him on the prayer on post 202. What GOD does for one, He does for another.)
prayers up 4 you.
p0rn will make ya go blind :)
May the LORD heal all those with diabetes on Free Republic. AMEN.
Prayers for you Laz.
I have DB2 and understand how hard it is. So my prayers are not only for your eyes but for you Blood Sugar, and the most elusive of the Fruits of the Spirit...Self-Control.
It’s the most difficult one, and I stumble all the time.
(((HUGS)))
Blessings on you, brother.
Praying for you, Laz.
Laz, my very best wishes to you.
Prayers up my FRiend.
He maintains his weight and sugars levels with the diet and his diabetes has been held in abeyance.
It takes discipline but it is possible to stop and reverse diabetes without drugs.
