WA

Less than a week after diagnosed cases of COVID-19 grew rapidly in the Seattle area, health care providers say medical supplies are growing scarce, threatening to further stress a system already scrambling to control the coronavirus outbreak.

The state Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed 79 cases of the disease in four counties, and as of midday Friday, at least 15 deaths have been linked to the illness in Washington.

***Now, as global supply chains have been disrupted *** and the number of cases climbs, health authorities are hunting for medical supplies and have called on employees to ration.

Walmart here this morning, paper decimated, simultaneously all other aisles fully stocked, except sanitizer sold out.

“The Florida Department of Health announces a new positive #COVID19 case in Broward County. “

Is this indication the Virus does not care about warm humid air?

Some people believe the virus will fade off in the Spring. Fort Lauderdale is as spring as you can get with temperatures a lot of places see in the Summer.

At a sufficiently small particle scale, Brownian movement will disperse a material throughout an enclosed space, without the aid of convection.

Where do you find those statistics of cases reported per day? I was looking for this exact information and wasn’t able to find a day by day reporting of it.

No such thing. The state of the virus in which it can affect others arises only when an infected person is showing symptoms - already sickened by the infection. Can someone “appear” to not have symptoms (and even deny they do).

That's a fair point. Let me put it this way, as you did in the last sentence - you and I are not going to know the symptoms of someone we are in close proximity unless they are actively coughing or sneezing. They could have a fever and we would not know that, or if they have been coughing /sneezing previously and are not while we are around them.

You are correct as of this moment—but that is expected to change in the near future.

The oldsters think these cruises are their last hurrah so they’re going on them no matter what. Thing is, for many it will be their last of everything and they’ll have passed it along to others who were looking forward to many more years. It’s nothing but selfishness on all.

Yes the CDC wasn't testing for a month .
We have unknown asymptomatic
infected carriers all over .
That Why we need to these Flights and To Test all incoming from overseas .
We need to slow the infection rate not Import it from
Italy .

It feels like I blink and then the cases are growing exponentially.

The drastic increase in COVID-19 cases was entirely predictable, due to the number of tests administered. It does not mean there is a sudden explosion of new infections. Rather, that people with the infection are now recognized.

MN

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) today confirmed a second presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus, COVID-19. The case is a resident of Carver County in their 50s who was likely exposed to COVID-19 while traveling in Europe in late February.

The patient developed symptoms on March 2, and sought health care Saturday, March 7. Samples were collected from the person and sent to the MDH Public Health Laboratory for testing and the test was found positive late this afternoon, March 8. As with the COVID-19 case announced Friday, MDH is awaiting confirmatory testing from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) but health officials consider the presumptive results actionable.

The patient is in isolation at home and is recovering

It’s a 3 hour drive to the Venice airport. Suspending only flights from Milan is silly. If I’m there I fly to Amsterdam, stay two days. Then fly to the states.

to respond to item #1 -
Trump banned Chinese nationals Jan 31. This embargo worked. The proof is, until the Princess airlift, the cases in the US were limited to those airlifted from Wuhan or those in before the ban.
Take for instance, the first Santa Clara, Calif case - declared around Jan 31. This case was only the 7th case in the US on that date. By 2/2, California had four cases. All related to Wuhan. Oregon’s second case was a returnee from So. Korea.

So everything was pretty calm and collected at this point - no big outbreak of direct from china origin, and everybody focused on the Diamond Princess.

Feb 28 - State Dept issues Level 3 travel advisory for Italy and So Korea - both upgraded to Level 4. The CDC instructs travelers to call their health care provider before they visit a facility and follow instructions.
https://www.businessinsider.com/cdc-issues-travel-warning-italy-covid-19-concerns-2020-2

Mar 1 - US announces tighter restrictions on travelers from Iran, South Korea and Italy and assigns Italy a level 4 - do not travel advisory

Mar 1 - California saw another case on 3/1, this one from Egypt. The same day NY saw a case from Iran.

March 2 saw the first cases from Milan, - Georgia and New Hampshire report cases. These had to have been prior to the Level 4 advisory, given 5-7 days incubation..

Mar 2 - airlines suspend travel to Milan (Delta to cut Rome 3/11 or sooner) and travelers are put on a heightened screening and voluntary or mandatory quarantine depending on status
March 3, Berkeley, CA saw a Milan case.

now all these Milan/Italy cases had to have come in before the travel ban, given a 5-7 day incubation, likely a day or two more before reaching out for medical help.

So we have done a decent job on locking down air ports of entry. But the weak spot was and remains commercial sea ports.
