re: aloe
the recipe I’ve posted before down and dirty is 1 cup 91% alcohol to 1/3 cup water. 70% alcohol already has 30% water in it. CDC recommends 70-91%. If you have 70%, you’re good.
So... you’ve got your alcohol and your bottled water to dilute if needed, and now you need a gel to thicken. Aloe can’t be found or is too expensive. Well, let’s think outside the box.
What you need is a carbomer gel. The exact same thickener in Aloe gel, usually listed as the third or fourth ingredient.
So....how about this $2.98/16oz item?

(this one I haven’t tried but it’s twice as much for the same price, $2.94)

you know how we know they’re not really back to work? Because there are no refrigerated containers being offloaded in Long Beach. The refer containers go in a big loop. Offload here, trucked to distribution center, unload, empty refer truck picks up American produce, back to docks, back on ship. All the refer containers are in China, with rotting goods inside, because China never plugged them in. Container ships mid Feb were diverted to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam. So it’s a cluster, trying to get containers back to the US. The other cluster is 1/7th of all cargo sailors are ...wait for it...Chicoms.

Experts: Rapid testing helps explain few German virus deaths
BERLIN (AP) Germany has confirmed more than 1,100 cases of the new coronavirus but so far just two deaths, far fewer than other European countries with a similar number of reported infections....the first two announced Monday: an 89-year-old in the western city of Essen and a 78-year-old man in Heinsberg county near the Dutch border. Both locations are in North Rhine-Westphalia state, which accounts for 484 of the 1,112 infections confirmed in Germany to date.

China chemical one-up-manship. I thought the locusts were in Africa?
China to dispatch first batch of supplies on Monday to control locust disaster
China will dispatch the first batch of supplies to Karachi on Monday to assist Pakistan in controlling the locust disaster.
The first batch to be dispatched will include 50,000 liters of pesticides and 14 air-powered high-efficiency remote sprayers.
An expert group of China which has already visited Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab province has said in the current large-scale outbreak of the locust disaster in Pakistan, the spraying of chemical pesticides and biological pesticides is more conducive.
No shortness of breath with flu?
Are u effing kidding me
Bullshit
OH GREAT pesticides from China what could possibly go wrong???
china concrete one-up-manship. Who needs to clean up their diseased country when there are world resources to be wasted and airports to nowhere to be built?
China forges ahead with airport construction binge, despite signs of slowing air traffic growth
China plans to build an additional 215 airports by 2035 in an effort to turn its aviation industry into a strategic part of its trillion dollar economy
But the sector appears to be cooling as growth in passenger and cargo volumes has slipped over the past three years
China is pressing ahead with plans to build an average of 14 airports every year over the next 15 years, despite passenger and cargo growth showing signs of slowing after a period of rapid expansion.

Scammers target seniors, claim to have coronavirus vaccine
Maine senior citizens are being warned about con artists who are playing off the anxieties surrounding coronavirus.
Sen. Susan Collins said Monday that the scammers pose as public health officials and offer a vaccine that can prevent the virus.
No vaccine for the coronavirus exists.
The scammers demand money over the phone and threaten that nonpayment will result in local health care providers refusing treatment.
Officials said the government will never demand advance payment over the phone for a vaccine.
Anyone who received this type of call should immediately hang up and report it to the Senate Aging Committee’s Fraud Hotline at 1-855-303-9470, Collins said.
OMGosh, L is in FL? I guess the two who died had the L strain. Guess its time to hunker down.
Uh, you have not been at a post office if you think that. Lots of over 60s working there, especially rural carriers. Large number of vets retire out of the military at 40 or so, and proceed to work for another 20 to 30 years to draw a second retirement. Believe me they are not healthy people either. Lots of smokers with horrible eating habits due to being under-staffed and running to finish their routes. Subs get run in the ground trying to cover two or more routes a day. Most of the clerks are sleep deprived too, especially the “part-timers” who work the 58 hours a week shifts and never know from one day to the next which shift they will be working.
Sorry, just realized you were talking about your personal delivery people. They are still at risk from exhaustion if the oldies get the virus and end up quarantined or hospitalized. Unfortunately for all of them.
Definitely at least one FL fatality can be traced to recent travel from Italy. Italy has an extremely aggressive virus mutation, with overwhelmed health services.
IRAN
Iran announces 43 new coronavirus deaths, raising toll to 237
“Our colleagues have confirmed 595 new cases across the country,” health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour told a news conference.
“This brings the overall number of confirmed cases to 7,161 as of today noon,” he said....
...Some radical Iranian officials have speculated the coronavirus may have been developed as a weapon by the Islamic republic’s arch-enemy, the United States.
The virus may have been “a product of America’s biological aggression that has first infected China and then spread to Iran and the rest of the world,” said Hossein Salami, commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, quoted in Etemad newspaper.
But Alaeddin Boroudjerdi, a senior MP, noted that the “United States, the Zionist regime (Israel) and other countries are all affected” by the virus.
Apart from the direct fatalities, 27 people have died from methanol poisoning in Iran after rumours that drinking alcohol can help cure the disease.

No. The elderly are a very vulnerable population, as are health care workers and first responders. Limited supply of masks means identifying the most vulnerable in the population. The rest of us should rely on common sense and good personal hygiene.
Unfortunately, we live in a very self-absorbed, me-first society. If people would pay more attention to improving personal hygiene with focus on limiting direct person-to-person contact in public, excellent hand-washing following each and every contact with public surfaces, and staying home when feeling under the weather, we should be in good shape.
I have to admit I was a little disappointed in two things about the press conference last night. 1) They should have been able to anticipate that they would have been asked whether or not the president and the vice president had been tested, and the answer should have been yes, and that they would continue to to be tested periodically until the epidemic is over. And 2) they do not have a consistent message about whether or not people should go on a cruise. The CDC says no one, especially those with underlying conditions, should go on a cruise. Dr. Fauci, on the other hand, says there’s no reason for a young, health person to go on a cruise.
Masks do not replace the overwhelming need for common sense, good personal hygiene through obsessive hand washing in public locations and avoiding direct contact with people in public.

The Incubation Period of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) From Publicly Reported Confirmed Cases: Estimation and Application
Results:
There were 181 confirmed cases with identifiable exposure and symptom onset windows to estimate the incubation period of COVID-19. The median incubation period was estimated to be 5.1 days (95% CI, 4.5 to 5.8 days), and 97.5% of those who develop symptoms will do so within 11.5 days (CI, 8.2 to 15.6 days) of infection. These estimates imply that, under conservative assumptions, 101 out of every 10 000 cases (99th percentile, 482) will develop symptoms after 14 days of active monitoring or quarantine.
Limitation:
Publicly reported cases may overrepresent severe cases, the incubation period for which may differ from that of mild cases.
Conclusion:
This work provides additional evidence for a median incubation period for COVID-19 of approximately 5 days, similar to SARS.
