FIRST: I am a fan of Charles Payne. Along with Maria Bartiromo and Lou Dobbs he is a solid MAGA voice on FBN.
SECOND: I'm afraid I'm going to have to step in here, as a career professional involved in statistics and projections as well as financial analysis ... and restate the areas of coronavirus concern which are so badly mangled by the mathematically-challenged (or worse) media.
HERE ARE THE SALIENT FACTS AS I SEE THEM, without attributing motives or plots to anybody (in this particular post, at least):
1) As with Flu, many people will get mild or home-manageable cases of COVID-19; but, there will be a substantial group of people who get REALLY SICK and have to be hospitalized. THIS is the group of primary concern. The virus which causes COVID-19 illness is in the same "Species" as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and the actual scientific name of the Wuhan coronavirus is SARS-CoV-2. The original SARS had a death rate of 9.6%, but ended up with only 8,096 cases worldwide. COVID-19 has a lower death rate, but is spreading MUCH FASTER.
2) WHAT IS THE DEATH RATE? Even with the full majesty of the U.S. healthcare system, there is no reason to think the death rate is much less than 10x the flu death rate per case. Thus, if the epidemic spreads in the USA like flu--and all else is equal--there could be around 500,000 deaths ... personal tragedies for millions including families, but STILL LESS THAN THE ANNUAL DEATHS FOR EITHER CANCER OR HEART DISEASE.
But it gets worse ...
4) Most of the deaths--as in the Spanish Flu or other flus--are really secondary illnesses such as pneumonia. Unlike in 1917, which was before the discovery of penicillin, these pneumonias are treatable with antibiotics and in some cases antivirals, which will be REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN a 1% (or less) death rate (i.e., 10x the flu death rate).
5) Unfortunately, the USA NOW IMPORTS AT LEAST 95% of these drugs, and even the precursors should we attempt to gear up our pharmaceutical manufacturing, FROM CHINA. China has already interdicted certain supplies (masks etc.) and long ago threatened to interdict pharmaceutical drugs as part of a trade war.
6) Finally, the U.S. has burdened our own healthcare system with the "Regulatory Flu." Our doctors now spend half their time filling out forms. They are mortified of bogus malpractice claims brought about by the RAT-infested "Plaintiff's law" industry.
I. Immediately promote a YUUUUUUUGE program of laws, tax breaks, tariffs and direct subsidies to REPATRIATE AMERICA'S PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING. Some of this could diversify to Mexico, Canada and (yes!) Puerto Rico (which has already attracted some pharmas).
II. Use Executive Orders where feasible and useful to unleash the current medical resources from as much REGULATION and LITIGATION RISK as possible.
III. Use maximum STRONG QUARANTINE MEASURES, internally and at the borders, to "Dodge the COVID-19 bullet.
IV. IGNORE ALL SPECIAL INTERESTS on this, and LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE.
V. Keep Americans calm, but TAKE ACTION!

I am quite sure ALL of the above is being done at this time, along with government getting the he’ll out of the way of pharmaceutical companies!! The damn time it takes in the US to get something on the market is just ridiculous!!! Pharmaceutical companies are not going to put citizens at risk
by being careless their businesses are on the line from major law suits!! Government needs to get the HELL out of the way and let these scientists do what they do best!! Trump had the CEO’s of ALL the pharmaceutical companies at the WH already and I am sure they are on top of this NOW!!!
I am calm. Not alarmed at all Dis. I have bought no bleach, no hand sanitizer, no masks, NADA. I am still frequenting our local Asian restaurants as well.
The only reason I even posted the news blurb was because it used our favorite number, 17 we all get so excited about.
I also am a fan of Payne, Maria and Dobbs. Cavuto not so much.
You being involved in statistics would know better than I what the statistical probability is that the number of deaths in the US from Corona Virus would be 17.

Here in Florida I have more chance of being snake bit, hit by a Cat 5 Hurricane, human trafficked or involved in a vehicular crash with an illegal alien than being done in by Corona Virus.
Though I did hear that two have contracted the Corona Virus in BROWARD County, Florida. Still its not enough to give me pause.
