Our economy was growing so fast, it was probably ingrained in Powell’s head to increase interest rates to avoid inflation. When he saw it wasn’t happening, he eventually lowered it.
When you are educated in finance and economics and know related history, it’s hard to break away and act to current conditions. I thought Obama’s Fed were too slow to raise rates, and thought it was political, which Powell may be political also. Too bad, because the Fed should NOT be political at all.

I’m 95% thinking this is politically motivated hysteria to bring down the economy and get Trump out of office. But the 5% chance that it did turn bad and Trump didn’t do everything, they would blame him too.

Rusty, the Situation is the same everywhere.
I spoke with my cousin in Germany, who owns a wholesale grocery store/food supplier to Europe. Two weeks back, his store went empty, people were buying everything. On Thursday, he was able to stock up and today everything is gone. Starting Monday the school will close. Monday Govt will tell them the next step. People are just following what the US govt is doing and very angry with their own Govt.
UK stores are empty, people are staying at home, angry with their own govt for inaction, they are following US President Press Conference and doing what we are doing here.
Today Spain and just now France had decided to shout down Restra and Coffee shops. It’s global.
People are spending money like crazy and after this over, they won’t we buying TP or soaps.
I wonder if they at least took out taxpayers funded abortions out of it. Evil is right.
I think you totally misunderstood my post NIKK. I meant at least we were laughing about it instead of fighting and hate I’ve seen in other places. People in this area are very laid back but if there were a crisis, this is a good place to be.
I’ve been a survivalist most of my life so I’ve been aware and stocked up long before Q and coronavirus. Also good to know how to survive without a pantry and refrigerator.
