In one of the more heated moments, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) confronted Pompeo, asking him if he believes "the coronavirus is a hoax." He pointed to White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney's comments earlier in the day claiming news media were ignoring the coronavirus until now because outlets were too focused on President Trump's impeachment before that, which he called a "hoax."
"Donald Trump's chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told the Conservative Political Action Conference [CPAC] that the coronavirus was the hoax of the day," Lieu said. "Do you agree with Donald Trump's chief of staff Mulvaney that the coronavirus is the hoax of the day?"
"The State Department is doing everything it can to protect American citizens around the world," Pompeo began replying before Lieu interrupted.
"Do you believe coronavirus is a hoax?" Lieu said.
"I'm not going to comment on what others are saying," Pompeo replied. "I'm just telling you what the secretary of State is doing."
"It's not even a gotcha question," Lieu continued. "Do you believe the coronavirus is a hoax?"
"It is a gotcha moment," Pompeo said. "It's not useful."
Asked again, Pompeo said: "We're taking it seriously."

Lieu, and the media are weaponizing the narrative of the coronavirus to inflict political damage on President Trump when you, the Democrats, and the media should be working to give the public accurate information and help prevent the spread of fear and panic.'

Did Mulavaney actually call it a hoax? I know he’s been dismissive.
I’m beginning to think Mulvaney isn’t all that.
I believe that you and your party would give a damn about this if you couldn’t use it against the President. I believe that when impeachment was in full gear you could have cared the less.
the way I read this is he said the Trump Impeachment was the hoax, not the coronavirus...

Doesn’t sound like it. From the excerpt it sounded like Mulvaney said the impeachment was a hoax. Apparently Lieu has his head up his butt.
C’mon. If you believe libs/media/dems, you might as well give up. Mulvaney said that Publications were too consumed with Trump’s impeachment — which Mulvaney called a “hoax” — to focus on the snowballing outbreak when they should have been, the chief of staff said.
“Why didn’t you hear about it?” Mulvaney said to the conservative audience. “The press was covering their hoax of the day because they thought it would bring down the president.”
Reporters are paying more attention to the virus now in an attempt to “take down the president,” according to Mulvaney.
“Is it real? It absolutely is real,” Mulvaney said of the deadly virus. “But you saw the president the other day — the flu is real.
“Are you going to see some schools shut down?” he said. “Probably. May you see impacts on public transportation? Sure. We know how to handle this.”

I read that as Mick Mulvaney called the impeachment a hoax.
Maybe he was picking that up from Rush and Hannity.
He said it in the context of being used to attack the president. The blame Trump aspect is what is the hoax.
Ted Lieu is nothing more than a piece of schiff.
