Now 33 positives in CA. How many were there before?

I think the testing has begun and we’ll be seeing just how many cases we have. Hopefully very few.

HERE’S AN ARTICLE REGARDING CURRENT SOLUTION TO TESTING:

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/02/27/809936132/cdc-fixes-issue-delaying-coronavirus-testing-in-u-s

But the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration informed state officials late Wednesday that the agencies have resolved the problem with the test kits.

“The FDA has authorized the use of those tests by using just the first and second step to provide a definitive diagnostic,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said during a congressional hearing Thursday.

Forty labs — local and state public health labs as well as select department of defense labs — across the U.S. are already authorized to start using the modified test, and all 93 labs should be able to start testing by next week, Azar said.

It’s interesting that the first coronavirus patient in Washington state was put on a vancomycin drip when he developed pneumonia.

Unfortunately he was worse the next day.

So vanc itself doesn’t seem to do anything. At least if it’s started after major symptoms have appeared.

antibiotics that have been shown to inhibit corona- and other viruses in the laboratory.

From:

https://www.drugs.com/article/antibiotics-and-viruses.html Antibiotic Resistance Overview

Overuse and inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics worldwide is leading to the global healthcare issue of antibiotic resistance. However, the issue of antibiotic resistance can be confusing for many patients. You may be told you cannot use an antibiotic for a viral infection because they are ineffective and may lead to “antibiotic resistance”.

Why don’t antibiotics kill viral infections, and how can overuse of an antibiotic lead to “antibiotic resistance”?

Antibiotics cannot kill viruses because viruses have different structures and replicate in a different way than bacteria.

Antibiotics work by targeting the growth machinery in bacteria (not viruses) to kill or inhibit those particular bacteria.

When you think about it structurally, it makes sense that an antibiotic could not work to kill a virus with a completely different set of replicating “machinery”.

Yes, it is. Let’s just hope there’s no false negatives.

It appears that *some* antibiotics work via other mechanisms for viruses.

I’m going to have to track down the vanc class stuff wrt ebola/etc.

Bali too. Iran has to classified as a Super Spreader. Italy and SK getting close. China, well yeah.

New Zealand !

What do we know about the patient?

The patient is in their 60s and had recently returned to New Zealand from Tehran via Bali. They arrived in Auckland on Wednesday and travelled home in a private car. Their family shortly afterwards called Healthline, and they were taken to Auckland Hospital.

The Congressional hearings on the Coronavirus were very interesting.

The Democrats wanted to bash Trump based on the “whistleblower” claims, but it was clear they were holding back—probably because they were instructed not to cause panic.

If the charges were true then the local community near Travis AFB (Fairfield?) would have to be in full quarantine mode (since allegedly some CDC employees were inadequately protected and then went to town to their hotel...)

_That_ would have caused panic.

So, the Democrats are left with their favorite refrain:

Mo Money!

Definitely a good source. I can follow almost all of it. Not that I like the news, but it’s not a big surprise. :-(

Luckily I had arranged to have enough drugs to get through the rest of the year courtesy of the VA. I travel much, so that played in my favor. I felt kinda funny with a bag full of drugs...can’t even see pink elephants with any of them.. oh well...
