Yes ma’am, I had read your posts tonight. Both you and your son entered my prayers as I read.

I’m hoping that there will be a hold on the type of work he does in those areas this month. Highly unlikely. But, perhaps it will be someone else’s turn. Sad to say.

and Milan Italy is loaded with Chinese people. When the tarrifs kicked in, CEOs and PRC figured they’d be slick and just ship their workforce outside of the PRC and skirt the tarrifs. I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there. and if the conspiracy theory that China stole the virus from us and accidentally bionuked themselves is true, that’s just rich.

This caught my attention (S Korean military)

https://m-en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20200224001500325

SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) — Eleven service members have been confirmed to have the new coronavirus as of early Monday, and around 7,700 others are quarantined as part of efforts to stop the virus from spreading further into barracks, the defense ministry said.

Eight COVID-19 cases in the Army and one each in the Navy, the Air Force and the Marine Corps were confirmed as of 8 a.m. Monday, up from a total of seven cases the previous day, according to the ministry.

The four newly confirmed soldiers are suspected of having been exposed to the virus after contacting patients inside barracks, according to military officers. South Korea reported the first virus case among its service personnel on Friday.

In the wake of a leap in the number of confirmed cases over the past several days with a cluster of infections linked to a religious group in the southeastern city of Daegu and a hospital in its adjacent country of Cheongdo, the authorities checked all service personnel with a history of visiting the regions or having contact with patients, and they are currently isolating around 7,700 soldiers at their bases.

You would think the comparitive report between St. Louis and Philadelphia during the Spanish flu would be taken as a lesson to begin quarantines. At least if those were put into effect perhaps your son and the precious family of so many others would he safer. The fewer people out and about, the fewer catch the bug. The load on hospitals would be greatly decreased thereby allowing resources to be used more frugally. Less sick people, less of the limited supply of medication needed. Seems simple from a simple-minded old granny.

“Gave you every chance.”

I think there may be people thinking that is some kind of loyalty test regarding our support for Trump, and they want to end up on the winning side of that test.

Remember last summer, with the ‘yield curve’ ‘inversion’, or some crap like that - how CNN spend days promising a recession because one interest rate had dropped 0.01% below another, or something like that, and we always got recessions when that happened. It didn’t make ANY sense then, but half the country thought it was game over for the Trump economy. What causes recessions are DISRUPTIONS to the economy, be it the Arab Oil Embargo, or a huge new round of regulations which cause businesses to divert capital from expansion and upgrades to ‘compliance’, or trillions in horrible loans (thank you Nixon and Bushes).

Unfortunately, this is clearly a disruption with China shutting down. There is literally NOTHING that Trump can do in the very short term. The ships aren’t moving and the goods will not be re-supplied, and I suspect, in the end, it will take several years to fill all of the back orders (think of a $20 condenser fan for your refrigerator...pretty old model, maybe 200 of those fans a year get sold here, but China still makes a production run every few years to keep us supplied...those runs will be the last thing they do when, and if, they get back to ‘normal’ - now you have to throw out a refrigerator and it may be very difficult to replace it...depending on when that fan fails).

So Trump (and others) can add all the ‘liquidity’ they want, print all the money they want, they can tell us all is well, or will be well, maybe even avoid a panic. But, in the end, we have a huge portion of our consumer (and non-consumer) economy about to run out of supplies, and that can only change after the ships start moving, and moving in a way that resembles ‘normal’. Trump can do a lot, but he cannot create fully-loaded cargo ships, if there’s no cargo coming into their ports.

Just talked with my friend in Japan, and it looks like they are going to allow contractors (which this person is) to work from home soon. Last week it was just NTT employees - contractors still had to report to work but could opt for staggered start times.

And... that was fast. Starting on Friday, the workplace protocol is changing and several large groups of contractors will start working from home.
