Greeneyes!

(Goodness! Are you getting up early or going to bed late!!!)

There was the question about Kansas:

“...yesterday I saw that 36 confirmed cases were at an undisclosed location in Kansas west of Coffeyville and south of Independence-according to J.Hopkins and confirmed cases had taken a big jump(that’s why I was checking the locations). It also said they were from the Diamond Princess.

Today, the map showed the same number of 53 cases, but the red dot (larger than most of the others) in Kansas had disappeared. I’m thinking that’s where they took the ones from California that were blocked by the court.

Any idea what town that would be or have you seen any news about it?

What I think is that someone on the East Coast did not know how to read a map and placed Omaha in Kansas! I do note that the reported numbers do not match up, but different organizations may be tracking numbers in different ways.

Here is the information on Omaha NE:

“Since Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) handled the treatment of three patients with Ebola in 2014, we have led the world in treatment, training and quarantine methods for highly infectious diseases.

In the video above, Nebraska Medicine/UNMC officials discuss the 13 Americans who arrived in Nebraska from the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked off the coast of Japan after COVID-19 exposure.

Below, our infectious disease experts have answered common questions about the virus, including advice about how to protect yourself and your loved ones.
What quarantine efforts are underway?

What is the latest on the Americans who were monitored at Camp Ashland?

The 57 people who arrived in Nebraska on Friday, Feb. 7, for COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) monitoring and quarantine left the Nebraska National Guard’s Camp Ashland location as their quarantine period came to an end on Thursday, Feb. 20. The 14-day quarantine period, mandated by the CDC, officially ended at 9 a.m.

By all accounts, their stay in Ashland, Nebraska, was uneventful. One person developed minor respiratory symptoms on Friday, Feb. 14, and was transported to the National Quarantine Unit on the UNMC/Nebraska Medical Center campus. After two negative coronavirus tests, this person returned to Camp Ashland for the remainder of the quarantine period.

These 57 people were flown to Omaha after being in the Wuhan area of China, where the current COVID-19 outbreak is believed to have originated. All 57 left Omaha via Eppley Airfield.”

Here are the two cases in Kansas that I am aware of. They are probably both students who are asian or were in China.
If I had to have this virus I could not think of better places to be than Lawrence, with access to KU Medical, and the future home of the Federal Bio-disease center in Mahattan (KS). (And this will probably provide these centers with a chance to examine the virus without the pressure of an outbreak and allow them to plan for the future.)

***********************************************************************************************
I have a sleep disorder—my circadian rhythm cycles longer than most people so I have insomnia when other people sleep, and wake up when other people are sleeping. Ugh.

That must be it, but it’s weird. The 13 of the 14 patients sent to Omaha were part of the 34 confirmed cases that was on the John Hopkins map for a long time.

The 57 were at the National Guard training center SW of Omaha for quarantine, and were released on 2/20.

We had around 40 that needed to be moved from quarantine in California, but were blocked by a court. On 2/24 the confirmed cases jumped to 53. When I added up the cases at the red dots, there was 36 from Diamond Princess at an undisclosed location-shown in Kansas - Coffeeville was the nearest town to that dot.

I thought that must the ones from California that they need to move out of quarantine for treatment-but if they went to Omaha, that wouldn’t need to be undisclosed. Omaha only has 20 containment beds—That’s the standard number at the 11 locations per an article I read-IIRC.

I also thought it strange, because JH had been including the Diamond Princess numbers as “other” regardless of which Country they were from.

On 2/25 the dots only add up to 16 confirmed cases not the 53 shown as confirmed USA. And the 36 dot in Kansas(likely Omaha) has disappeared.

So it looks like they adjusted the dots, but not the confirmed cases. Which means that some of the Diamond Princess numbers are still in the confirmed cases and some of them are in OTHER.
