This is my “conspiracy theory:”
The virus was a Chinese bioweapon targeted against Asians.
Who?
Taiwan.
Red China was going to use a bioweapon to decimate Taiwan and use that humanitarian crisis to invade, but not militarily. They would be invited by surviving Taiwan Quisling leaders. This would effectively hand over Taiwan without sparking a military confrontation with the US.
But what is going around now is NOT the high-octane virus. This one got out by accident. This weaker version was being used to craft a vaccine that would have been given to the general Chinese population (and the sympathetic Taiwan Quislings) before the real virus was unleashed.
This weaker version got out by mistake.

China media was telling there people back late Jan, the US created the bioweapon to target Asians. Past the blame for the outbreak maybe.
I suppose anything is possible. But this points out the inherent problem with biowarfare. The aggressor can pay as big a price as the victim.
If you could genetically target groups, I suppose you could decimate a continent like Africa, with additional casualties in the US and the Caribbean and parts of Europe. It would be the greatest crime in history, but theoretically I guess it could be done.
But if the Chinese in China want to wipe out the Chinese in Taiwan, I think they would have considered that there are a billion Chinese in China who might get wiped out, one way or another. Very foolish strategy and I think they are smarter than that.

If that was their intention, they failed. Based upon the deaths in Iran and Italy it’s very deadly for non-Asians also.
