Hundreds of people have been filmed queuing up to buy face masks in the city at the centre of South Korea's coronavirus outbreak.
A long line of people snaked out the doors of a supermarket in the city of Daegu on Monday as people tried to protect themselves against the spread of the disease amid fears of a global pandemic.
South Korea now has the largest number of confirmed cases outside of mainland China after infections spiked at the weekend, standing at 830 by Monday morning.

At least they may actually get some. From a FR on another thread, he got an email when he tried to purchase some stating the US government has procured all the company’s supply.
Surgeons wear masks to prevent their spittle and large respiratory secretions from contaminating a surgical field. Sorry but as long as the seal is not complete 2-3 micron thick viruses enter. Put another way. Don’t bet your life that a face mask will preserve your health. Also the allure of pseudoscience is great. But there is absolutely no credible evidence that vitamins strengthen immune response.
Yep, we’re learning the hazards of so much outsourcing. I managed to order some masks for our son in late January, but they were already hard to get. They aren’t N95’s - those were already so expensive that I didn’t go that route. If he has some protection and keeps his hands off his face it’s a lot more than he would have done for himself.
There were a lot wearing face masks in the 80s when i was stationed over there.
I though face masks like this mostly protect other people from the wearer’s germs, not protect the wearer.

The masks will be provided FULL SCALE when the ‘criminal community’ figures out they can legally wear them 24/7 and the demand will be so great we will be ‘forced’ to supply all the shelters, food banks, welfare offices etc with them and then they will become ‘gold’ like trading food stamps for cash.
Bern will figure it out...anything to spend OUR money while safely burying his....
Somewhat like EVERYONE’S grandchildren paying OUR debt, ‘we’ sat back and let these pols legislate themselves into wealth and security etc etc etc
Bernie Sanders is proud of seeing people waiting in lines to purchase basic necessities.
Three years ago Trump stated the process of bringing industry back to the United States. Thank God for that - - wish face masks factories had been included.
9 second Video beyond the line photo:
When I lived in Japan in the Sixties, they were wearing them over there.
Stupid.
Masks do nothing to prevent your getting this.
They might have helped with the first SARS. THIS virus is WAY more contagious than the first SARS.
Because if anyone in that line has it...everyone next to them and everyone behind them (who walks through that air later on) will have this.
Here is what the CDC was saying before the current pandemic:
A NIOSH-certified, disposable N95 respirator is sufficient for routine airborne isolation precautions.
Interim Domestic Guidance on the Use of Respirators to Prevent Transmission of SARS

You completely missed my point - every little bit helps. Masks reduce SOMEWHAT the possibility of being exposed, so it is senseless NOT to use them in an environment in which it is known that a fair percentage of those around you are carrying a bad disease. As to vitamins, it is also senseless NOT to use them to boost up your immune system. I am not a believer in the “massive doses of Vitamin C will kill any disease” theory (or, more accurate, BS), but they help to some degree.
Bought a couple of 3M N95 masks in Home Depot this morning just to have them on hand. Will eventually use them up while sanding the deck if for no other purpose. Looked like quite a few masks had been bought already.
I hate to say this but Democrats have got to be loving this. This may be the very thing that sends the USA into recession prior to the election. Best case scenario may simply see a major correction in stock indices, which is why I always thought it was a bad move to tie Trump’s successes to the stock market.

My doctor said
1. don’t touch your face.
2. wash your hands.
3. don’t touch your face.
4. wash your hands.
That’s how I survived 10 years as a classroom teacher rarely getting the flu.
Now my hands are dry mess becuase of it...
