Hundreds of people have been filmed queuing up to buy face masks in the city at the centre of South Korea's coronavirus outbreak.
A long line of people snaked out the doors of a supermarket in the city of Daegu on Monday as people tried to protect themselves against the spread of the disease amid fears of a global pandemic.
South Korea now has the largest number of confirmed cases outside of mainland China after infections spiked at the weekend, standing at 830 by Monday morning.

Unbelievable!
Looks like a longer line than that to get into a Trump rally.
Image a trump rally that offers face masks for every attendee. That should break the record.
The masks are useless. Standing in crowds is really dangerous.Good way to get infected.
The masks are not useless. They have some protective value. It helps to have eye protection as well.
Note how your “fighting and working for you” MSM is keeping you informed? They’re not?? Fancy that...
While it is true that simple N95 masks are not a panacea, they do accomplish a few things: first, they DO filter out some germs (whether coronavirus or not); they also serve as a constant reminder to people NOT to touch their face, especially their nose or mouth, and that if they are going to do so then they should wash their hands. Finally, if someone sick is wearing the mask and they sneeze or cough, less (not none, to be sure, but LESS) of whatever they have is going out in an aerosol to infect others.
So they’re not perfect by any means, but they ARE a whole lot better than nothing.
The best thing that people can do is:
1) Stay away from crowds;
2) Wash hands frequently and thoroughly;
3) Get enough sleep; and
4) Take a bunch of vitamins to rev up your immune system.
People do those things, and the spread of this disease (or any other) will be severely limited - and for those that get it, if they’re immune system is stronger, they will recover sooner and in larger numbers.
In some countries, it would be a scrum at the door, every man for himself, and Devil take the hindmost.Bring Out Your DeadPolite people, the Koreans...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Who got the Kewpie doll?
Sorry. Washing hands and avoiding crowds is good policy. But face masks and vitamins are worthless.
When and if that happens in the US, it will not be an orderly queue, it will be a riot, just like Black Friday at the Walmart.
Those high-rises are exactly why it will spread like wildfire ...
We have had some protective items in the house since a previous viral outbreak. I’m glad we have a few things available in case they can help protect us. I can’t imagine standing in a queue like this being breathed and sneezed upon by all the other people in the queue. At this point if I didn’t have a mask, I’d just wrap a cotton bandana across my face, wash my hands, and avoid crowds. The face masks may be helpful, but they’re not magic.

Me!
Yup!
Sorry but you’re wrong. Nothing is a panacea but the right vitamins certainly do positively boost immune systems in a way that might stave off infection to start with. And masks were important with SARS and clearly helps in some circumstances. Washing hands and avoiding crowds are very important too of course.
The USA company in China making N95 masks was nationalized by China before this all hit the headlines & Kalitta Air was evacuating out Americans. Before they nationalized the US company, China had stopped EXPORTING the masks. I say this virus problem in China has been going on for some time.
Unless there are other locations manufacturing those masks, this will get alot worse.
