Figured we would start numbering the threads.
Some points to keep in mind:
1. This thing is not just the flu. 2. 1/10th of the worlds population is in some sort of lockdown. 3. Generally, we dont buy the Chinese numbers But if anything they are low. 4. Everyone is welcome to post, but dont bore us with your you are panicking posts. They are tedious.
Its Sunday night and the Walking Dead is back. Lets talk Coronavirus.
I know SAS Shoes are still made in USA. What other brands are Not made in China?
New Balance. They are made in MA.
Walmart and some grocery stores have those #10 bulk sized cans of stuff and usually have potato flakes. They’re half way decent.
No (NOT trying to get into an argument here!), my “80%” is looking at it entirely differently.
I just looked this up: (On the high end of consumer products) Toyota says an average car uses 30,000 individual parts.
https://www.toyota.co.jp/en/kids/faq/d/01/04/
Now, of course a lot of these, like the screw you mentioned, will be used in multiples - some in pretty decent quantities. But I’m betting there are at least 1000 different parts in an average car. Probably more like 5000. Even some of the screws are “custom” (may or may not really need to be). But - let’s go with 1000 different parts. (300 of this screw, one of that panel, 4 of that ring = “3 different parts”.)
So, even if the car is only 28% Chinese parts (by number of different parts, as opposed to, say, weight), that’s 280 different Chinese parts, a lot of them custom (for that mfgr., if not the car model). The vast majority have to be installed “when they have to be installed in production.” Any one of that majority of the 280 can shut some aspect of production down until supply can be re-established.
Just for fun, where does the mfgr. put all the other parts that ARE still en route, but can’t be run when they come in?
Dried mashed potatoes are pretty good to thicken stew. And dont get me started on shepherds pie. Stock up St. Patrick’s day is around the corner.
There used to be a Made in USA website.
Will have to check that out, later.
I don’t eat potatoes, but I recently dehydrated about 10 lbs of cauliflower florets...which I sub for potatoes.
But, you’re right....instant mashers make great thickener for soups/stews.

NEW: Kuwait bans all flights to and from Iraq due to coronavirus, says foreigners who were recently in Iraq will be denied entry
Smoking kills six million people a year, accounting for one in 10 deaths among adults worldwide. Without urgent action, tobacco use will claim one billion lives this century!
This is not an attempt to say don’t worry about this virus, smoking kills way more, no, the story is if you smoke you’re probably in for a fight for your very life if you get Coronavirus.
China has the most tobacco users (300.8 million), followed by India (274.9 million). China has the most smokers (300.7 million), while India has the most smokeless tobacco users (205.9 million).
Russia has the highest smoking rate among men (60.2 percent). Particularly alarming is the fact that the percentage of Russian youth who smoke (both male and female, ages 15 to 19) is higher than in any other country.
I assumed, too. You know what they say about assuming.
Ashford and St Peters Hospital operating under Pre Code Black 24th February 2020
The Ashford and St Peters hospital is operating under a precode Black we can reveal.
The 400 beds hospital in Chertsey, Surrey offers a wide range of acute care services, including an Accident & Emergency department.
The pre Code black was brought in place as the system is under severe pressure and is unable to deliver certain actions and comprehensive emergency care. It also means there is potential for emergency care and safety to be compromised.
A number of 12 hours breaches were reported over the weekend revealed our hospital source who has asked not to be name. An emergency crisis meeting was called by Senior managers at the site this morning bring into force the alert.
Routine hospital appointments are being delayed to free up capacity for the sickest patients. Our Source has further revealed drastic step of extending the cancellation of non-urgent operations to include hundreds of minor procedures may also be brought into force this month.
The hospital is full capacity. Patients arriving at Accident and Emergency may have have to be taken to another hospital. The NHS Trust have been approached for comment.
Smart move Kuwait. I think airline travel should be banned for the next three months world wide except for emergency travel.
