This will be the forever thread.
I think a lot of people are just grasping at straws: this only affects the elderly. Smokers. People w/pre-existing conditions. Asians. People wo/ western healthcare. Etc. I suspect it is just human nature to grasp at straws like this. Bottom line is we are only now going to start getting real, usable data.
Personally, I think that this is all over the world now. But at least the initial infection seems to be not as bad as it could be (probably a real death rate well below 2%). However, and it is a big however, the big wildcard is: are reinfections the real danger here (which would explain the deaths in Hubei being so much more prevalent than elsewhere)? Once this gets embedded in a community, where people just keep getting infected, are we going to see similar patterns everywhere? Are we going to see millions of mild cases in, say, India, followed 2 months later by a Hubei situation x1000?
Yup.
Iranians are the definition of Aryan. Seriously, look it up.
If it’s killing them left, right, and center...it’s not an Asian specific thing.
Having said that, every Iranian I went to school with and worked with (the men) smoked like chimneys.
Mutations.
“The US State Departments travel warning for China is at the highest level: Level 4: Do not travel.
“The US Centers for Disease Control and Preventions travel advisory is also at the highest level for China, urging travelers to avoid all nonessential travel to the country.
“On February 19, the CDC issued new travel advisories for Hong Kong and Japan its first coronavirus-related travel warnings outside of mainland China. The health agency put advisories for those two locations at Watch: Level 1, advising travelers to practice usual precautions.
“These precautions include avoiding contact with sick people and regularly and thoroughly cleaning hands. The agency also advises people to seek medical advice if they have spent time in Hong Kong or Japan during the last two weeks and feel ill with fever or respiratory symptoms.

TAIPEI, Feb 20, - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is listing Taiwan among the destinations with apparent community spread, alongside Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, according to the information provided on Coronavirus Disease 2019 Information for Travel webpage.
Community spread means people have been infected with the virus, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected, the CDC said.
At this time, the extent of virus spread is not sustained or widespread enough to meet the criteria for a travel notice, the CDC added.
one fart plume infected 60 odd people with SARS
I heard one guy living in Wuhan. He said something like “So on day 2 of this being in the news, they are saying that it is just a minor thing and no large risk. Then, on day 3, they put the city under quarantine! How can they do that!!??”
I say that to remind me - tomorrow, or next week, they may just put my neighborhood on quarantine.
And for how long?
Yeah, the smoking study was the most thorough study so far. As an ex smoker, it definitely unnerved me.

"Breaking news. Corona Virus in Israel.
Over 50 Israelis are in mandatory home quarantine, who were exposed to the Corona Virus in the east.
If any of these people break the quarantine, they will face up to 7 years in prison."
Too late. That should have been issued last week. Now they need to issue warnings for S. Korea, Iran, Singapore, etc.
They just did that i S. Korea, 3 days ago, they had 30 cases, now over 160... shut down a city if 1.2 million yesterday.

Mutations may make things worse, but not likely. Mutations are more likely to make things better. The true nightmare situation would be this: a virus which spreads easily (probably upper respiratory), and results in a very mild, low/no symptom disease, where people are contagious, mobile, and not visibly sick, for a long period of time. In this manner, the virus spreads everywhere. But in a true nightmare situation, people would not develop long-term immunity, and the virus would be able to get into the lower respiratory system and other organs upon reinfection. In this scenario, the virus would never really go away, since it would just bounce around populations indefinitely, but it would be a Russian roulette situation in that any particular reinfection would contain significant chance of a much more serious case.
Mutations aren’t what to worry about. More serious reinfections are.
7 years in prison.
That makes sense. Public endangerment or something.

Well, I wasn’t real thrilled with an “answer” I just heard, from Kudlow, on an CNBC segment....
Cramer asked Kudlow about the possibility of a drug shortage coming up, here, within the next few weeks...due to Chinese factories shutting down and our dependence on China for so many of our drugs...
Kudlow didn’t specifically answer the question! He danced around, saying, “I’m sure the President will do whatever is needed, working w/Secy Azar, to ensure that our country has needed drugs....even if he has to sign Executive Orders...”
And, at the same time saying that we (America) hasn’t decoupled from China...
My question...how do you sign an Executive Order for something that may not exist? I was hoping to hear Kudlow say something like....we have made preparations for any shortages...
Something along those lines. :- /
